Another interesting series in the collection is “Daily Photographs” from 1969-70. Blumberg simply photographed newspaper stories, focusing on political, social and commercial events regarding the Vietnam War. Those pictures are shows moving and patriotic moments. The photographer definitely shows in this work that he loves his country. The point of photographing newspapers was to consolidate those important moments, because information on newspapers most times is fleeting moments. People usually read it and the get rid of it, and by taking a photo of it the photographer capture the moment for longer.…

In the world of art, the photograph has conventionally been used to establish original subjects that document and reflect cultures as accurately as possible. However, in Philip Gefter’s essay, “Photographic Icons: Fact, Fiction, or Metaphor”, Gefter points out that, “just because a photograph reflects the world with perceptual accuracy doesn’t mean it is proof of what actually transpired. (208)” What Gefter is telling us is that it is that the ordinary reality of the image is not what is important; the metaphoric truth is the significant factor. What makes photojournalism essential is that it helps show us how to view the world in an individualized way. It is, essentially, a public art, and its power and importance is a function of that artistry. From the war photography of Mathew Brady (who was known for moving dead bodies to create a scene) to Ruth Orkin (who directed a second shot to capture “American Girl in Italy”, when the first “real” shot was not to her liking), Gefter underscores that, although these shots are not the unedited version of life,…

“Born into Brothels” by Zana Briski and Ross Kauffman, is a documentary that is overflowing with symbolism. Photography is exposed throughout the documentary; the role of photography is to portray the opportunity that has been granted to these children for them to express themselves. The painting they would engage in was a way for these children to express their emotions through the paintings; Avijit was quoted when he said “I like to draw pictures because I want to express what’s on my mind… I want to put my thought into colors.” Photography and painting was these children’s only way to express their true inner feelings; and that is why it is emphasized throughout the documentary. Briski symbolizes the children’s escape from the Brothels, a brighter future, and the only way out of their misery.…

We selected the Baderman Island website as the focus for our team project. We felt the website had a number of photos and graphics that had some complexity to them. This provided a wealth of images for much discussion and analysis. Although the website does well in some areas to convey the beauty and atmosphere of Baderman Island, it also falls short in other areas and fails to show consistency. This paper will examine the use of colors, photographs, graphics and text and image composition with a particular emphasis on the subject of composition; we will provide analysis of these areas and provide recommendations for improvements.…

0:11Photography has been my passion ever since I was old enough to pick up a camera, but today I want to share with you the 15 most treasured photos of mine, and I didn't take any of them. There were no art directors, no stylists, no chance for reshoots, not even any regard for lighting. In fact, most of them were taken by random tourists.…

Ouka Leele is a Spanish photographer, painter, and poet. Born in Madrid into an artistic family, she learned photography at an early age, though she initially hoped to become a painter. In the late 1970s she joined post-Franco Madrid's turbulent cultural scene, the movida madrilène; but had her first photographic show, Peluquería (Hair Salon)—figures bizarrely arranged with objects like turtles or electric razors ( Barcelona in 1979). In the 1980s she became famous for large, carefully organized monochrome photographs hand painted with watercolour and varnished. She applied this striking and sometimes disorientating technique both to everyday scenes and portraits and to elaborately staged fantasy pictures (e.g. Dream of a Summer Night, 1986) reminiscent of Symbolism or Surrealism. Later she created more serene images, often including her daughter Maria. In one of her photographs called ‘The Diplomacy’, the photographer (Ouka Leele) has presented a bold atmosphere as the colours used contrast each other such as Green and Red. This is an investigation into the photographers subjectivity, and how the photographers relationship between the subject and themselves becomes a collaboration to convey some sort of special significants. The photographer is tied to the facts of the subject and he/she has to define the truth, the photographer is able to add a coherent narrative by isolating a fragment of the subject and by doing so claiming some sort of rich context, that holds an extraordinary value of intelligence and a convincing narrative. The investigation will have a general look up on the remarks of photography then specifying on photographic fields and examining them more closer. The photographic fields that we consider closest to reality we generalise with common teams…

The evolution of digital photography in the 1990s brought about dramatic changes in the art of capturing photos and their interpretation. Though pictures were manipulated in the past too, digital photography gave photo manipulation added dimensions. There exist varying institutions that make use of photographs to each serve their purposes. In this paper, I am going to talk about the usage of photographs in the form of maps, in terms of art and their use for the purpose of photo journalism.…

This year in year 12 I would like to explore city and suburban photography. In my exploration I will focus on landscapes, man-made and that made by mother earth. What I hope to showcase in my portfolio this year is a collection of cityscapes hoping to capture astonishing man-made structures and the great architecture that’s been exerted into them. With this I also hope to showcase a bit of an ‘old vs. new’ theme, especially with many iconic Melbourne structures. I hope to also explore nature, landscapes particularly, such as parks, beaches, etc. as I also have a great interest in nature. I also hope to explore urban art or commonly referred to as ‘graffiti’, to seek out very creative art around the streets of Melbourne.…
