Project Part 1
Project Part 1: Identify E-Business and E-Commerce Web Apps for Planned Transformation
Up-North Fishing Outfitters (UNFO) is the premier source for those fishing in northern Michigan. They provide equipment, watercraft, safety gear, and other products for local and tourist anglers. UNFO wants to pursue an e-business model to realize additional revenue streams, reduce costs, and improve customer service. With the full support of senior management, the IT department has been tasked to identify e-business and e-commerce web applications to support the proposed transformation.
Having a presence on the web will open UNFO up to a wider array of customers. There are a number of free e-commerce software packages out there, but using them would require some technicians in the IT department to know how to customize, deploy and secure them. Some of the free packages are Apache OFBiz (Java), Magento (PHP), Spree Commerce (Ruby), and OpenCart (PHP). The free packages are the most cost efficient way for an e-commerce solution.
Most companies advertise that they are low cost for the obvious reasons. Integrated Systems Management Inc. (ISM) boasts a low cost solution that has been “helping companies in diverse industries to use the Internet to streamline business processes, reduce costs, increase customer loyalty and satisfaction, improve their bottom line, and expand their Web presence.”* ISM will design, build, deploy, enhance, maintain, and even host and manage (if desired) your Web-based applications.
Some security concerns would include cross-site scripting, exposure of PII and financial information. If a free option is chosen and management and maintenance are kept in-house, then technicians should be properly trained on how to best protect the web site and how to recognize fraudulent transactions. If control of the site will be outsourced, then the organization selected should be reputable, and UNFO and the selected organization should work together to ensure security of

Transforming a brick-and-mortar business to an e business is not an easy task. The first step in creating an e-business is to conduct a market research on the competition we need to gather information such as shipping costs, price points, web navigation shopping cart procedures, and alternate revenue streams. The next step would be to create a detailed business plan with sales projections, budgets, goals, and actions. The third step is creating a Domain name that reflects your business for example: UNFO.com/ UNFO.ORG. After this step we have clearly identified the target market in the different fishing towns in Michigan, then an advertising budgets for online strategies, we also need to establish different distribution channels of the merchandise if shipping is required. One of the most important aspect of the customer information that is going to be handle would be Data Management, since we are handling customer data, such as credit cards information, mailing addresses, it is essential to have a published policy detailing how the information would be gathered, stored, and secured. A well effective return policy would be clearly stated and acknowledged by the customers. The other important aspect is weather the data will be updated and maintained in-house or outsource support. The work that I chose was an excerpt from Dr. Maya Angelou book, “Wouldn’t Take Nothing For My Journey Now” and other works from the author Maya Angelou simply because in almost all of her works whether poems, books and etcetera, she writes the same way.. In her except she talks about being a young mother of a Kindergartener. She talks also of how she worked hard to make a living for her and her child by working two jobs. The talk of how she survived and her doing what she has to is called survival of the fittest, in nature and in culture only the strong survive. Also she talks of how she is comfortable with herself and the skin she is in. Much of her work is of special interest to women, expressing Maya Angelou’s views on subjects ranging from fashion and entertainment to sensuality and pregnancy, racism, and death. “Getups,” demonstrating not only Angelou’s love of richly colorful clothing but also a painful event from her years as a single mother of a small boy; and “Extending Boundaries,” recounting an embarrassing experience from Angelou’s early days as a writer in New York City. Angelou uses each incident to draw some point, though generally she offers her moral or advice with a light hand, often with humor, despite the seriousness of some of her subject matter. Her recurrent themes include self-knowledge and the necessity of honesty, prudence, and respect in the treatment of oneself and others. A compilation of brief scenes, thoughts and situations. The collection is rather wide ranging from history to social graces to autobiography. The past and the present collide as the stories are short and end quickly, the transitions are abrupt. Maya Angelou's tendency to characterize the world as degenerating. Passages like, "we have come to a place, a time, when virtue is no longer considered a virtue. The mention of virtue is ridiculed, and even the word itself has fallen out of favor," put me off. It belies a tendency to…

Most business companies are very much dependant on the internet these days. The internet has created a new function to do business on line. This is known as ebusiness or ecommerce. This has allowed businesses to communicate and transfer information via the Internet. The information is received by a global market rather than a national market. Instead of a customer having to call to a business to see their products, the customer can log on to the company’s website and view all their products, prices, see their contact information and even place an order with the click of a button.…
