As in the first phase of a project in the project lifecycle model CITATION Gra11 \l 1030 (Gray & Larson, 2011) I will start my paper by defining a project, project management and project implementation. Furthermore and according to the project lifecycle model, I will in this section list the goals of this project as wells as specify the scope of the project and the discussion. The goal of this assignment is to clearly answer the question stated by the lecturer: “How effective is Project management in managing the implementation of projects across different industrial and business sectors.” My understanding of the question is to research the effectiveness, success of the use of project management in different industries. I Will start this paper by discussing the reason for using project management and then define projects and project management. I will then through my research find out what the success factors for project management is. I will use these findings to compare it to the characteristics of the industries that are successful and unsuccessful in applying project management. Why do we use projects management?During the past 40 years project management has won a permanent place within business management and corporate strategy practicesCITATION Bre05 \p p.4 \l 1033 (Bredillet, 2005, p. p.4). Applying project management as strategic processes can be a source of competitive advantage. It is through this process that competencies and resources are planned in a way that creates most value and competitive advantages. The market arena has become increasingly dynamic and competitive which calls for effective and efficient planning and execution processes. It is due to project management being able to provide tools that facilitates this that it has become widely used in the corporate world. Definition of a projectIn the first week of class we defined a project in many different ways, but most importantly we emphasized the fact that it must be an exception to the routine, have specific goals CITATION Nic14 \p 10 \l 1030 (Stevens, Lecture 1, 2014, p. 10) and have a time constraint. The Project Management Institute defines it as: “A project is a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service or result”CITATION Gra11 \p 5 \l 1030 (Gray & Larson, 2011, p. 5). This definition is widely acknowledged and used by several other authorsCITATION Anc13 \p 1 \l 1030 (Anca, 2013, p. 1).
