Introduction English is the universal language. The proficiency level of English major students is one of the great factors to be considered in producing high quality graduates. English proficiency pertains to the ability to speak, read and write in English. To be considered as truly proficient, you should have an advanced skill in this. English is used as the business language as well as the medium of instruction in schools and universities. It is the language used by the people all over the world in order to communicate to anyone. The problem of having education students with less proficiency level is something that should be avoided. As a matter of fact it is a serious problem to be answered. English proficiency must be treated as an additional skill. In reality, a country needs to build familiarity, friendship and collaborate with other countries as well. It is the government’s obligation to give good quality of education to be able to work and communicate in a wider and competitive world. English plays an important role in the basic education, particularly to speaking and writing (Kumar, 2009). It is considered as the widespread language; for which it is understood by almost all countries around the world. It is used by most people as their second language. Moreover it is a way of communication in business, negotiations and particularly in academics. Filipino students focus much time and effort learning English instead of discussing, analyzing and presenting their own ideas and insights. In response to the wide spread use of English language, our institution takes various ways in order to provide the students with the quality education that they need. Learners should not keep on depending on what their instructors can give to them. Instead as a student you should have the initiation to take various steps on how you can help yourself to be skillful in English. Having graduates, who is intelligent in English is definitely an edge to have a better career.
