Advertisement Essay
In this magazine ad (courtesy of Nylon magazine) we have 3 young girls posing for a clothing brand. The credibility or ethos we can rely on is the company Buffalo by David Bitton. Since it is a well-known brand, people can trust that this company has goodwill and character. Plus, it is an advertisement from a magazine called Nylon which is among one of the popular fashion magazines that are distributed throughout stores. We can find credibility in the magazine and brand name.
The logical appeal (logos) that this advertisement has is perhaps the convenience of the clothing. We can say that the type of clothing they are wearing is good for a warm weather since they aren't wearing too much or it can also be good for going out. From what is seen from this one ad one can argue that the clothing is occasionally appropriate.
The emotional appeal that comes from this ad is the trendy lifestyle of the generation. There are young girls that are modeling these clothing, and may convey a message that if one were to wear these type of clothes, they'd feel young and stylish as well. Not only are they young but they are revealing more than a decent amount of skin which shows sex appeal. They also are thin and tall young girls who would make other girls feel threatened and envious of these models and therefore would aim to look just like them. Then again, most girls disregard their looks and accept themselves so one would also feel attractive by this type of clothing.

They draw you in by bold tasteful colors, typical models, and sexual messages. The Victoria’s Secret and the Polo ad both used dark colors to set the mood to an intense commercial. The characters play a secretive role that makes you interested in what this attractive figure has. The difference is the Victoria’s secret ad is a dominant girl advertisement and Polo is strictly to attract male buyers. In a majority of these ads, a larger model is never shown. That alone sets the audience to a select few. People will always compare themselves to these models and if they don’t feel like they are good enough, they will never purchase that…

    The Gift By Li-Young Lee

Li-Young Lee’s, “The Gift” unquestionably communicates several ideas, some rather direct, and others buried within the rhetoric and composition of the poem. Although the meaning (of the poem) may be left to interpretation, one of the most prominent concepts of the story, in my belief, is the gift of love and consequent tradition of offering it to loved ones. In the beginning of the poem, the narrator describes his father comforting him in the painful situation of removing a metal splinter from his hand: “My father recited a story in a low voice. I watched his lovely face and not the blade.” The father’s calm and affectionate demeanor can be further attested to in the second stanza, “...I recall his hands, two measures of tenderness, he laid…

This advertisement is for Armani Jeans. Armani is also very well known for his designer jeans. Armani is more expensive than Calvin Klein and is not worn by many people. Armani is directed toward the upper class and is known by his label for his prices. This ad shows a man standing outside presumably in the snow. He is not such a popular model but he still has an impact for the advertisement. He is featured wearing a black jean-jacket and a baseball cap with "AJ" and the symbol of the Armani bird. The clothing this model is wearing is also very plain. The model has a very serious expression on his face. The whole picture is very bold and expressive. He looks very powerful and determined. His face has been shaven and his hair is apparently short. This is the look many male models have. His face seems very symmetrical and well defined. This advertisement is also achieving the same thing the Calvin Klein advertisement achieves. This achievement is creating an image for men in today's society by displaying an attractive man dressed in expensive clothing which makes him desirable. This look is what men are trying to achieve today. Men feel by achieving this look they will be desired and if they do not look or dress this way they will be worthless. To attain this look is as hard for men as it is for women. The cost of the clothing is very expensive and to have the clothing one must have the money for…

The advertisement is attempting to draw the reader’s attention to their new product by depicting the model as sexy with the bold, dark colors of their new makeup line. The model is wearing a colorful pinkish-red lipstick, and she has a serious, intense look on her face. The vivid expression on the model’s face appears to cover any blemishes or imperfections, showing her perfect complexion. She has strong, contoured cheekbones, and she is wearing bold eye-makeup. Her eyeliner is dark, on both her upper and lower lash-lines, and it is fiercely winged. Posing the model with sexy, confident facial expressions and features sells the company’s product because most women want to feel sexy in their everyday lives. Women are usually shown as strong in a sexual sense as opposed to a physical sense. In contemporary times, women are typically seen as sexual objects. With that stereotypical notion, many women feel as if they have to dress a certain way or wear a lot of makeup to fit in, or to seem important in society. In the picture, the model is wearing a black dress, which appears to be leather material. The dress is tight at the top near her breasts, and it widens at her hips. This dress focuses on her sexual appeal because it is directing the reader’s attention towards her breasts and her hips, which are said to be some of the sexiest features of a female’s…

The advertisement uses many different sizes and colors within the whole image. The top Cover Girl is in the light green color reflecting back to the idea of softness and it is the vantage point for a person’s eyes. It is very bold and automatically draws attention to the top half of the advertisement. Also, the different very black and dark bold text at the bottom of the page seems intriguing for a few reasons. First, the different font types and sizes attempt to make you really see the first three lines very clearly and get an understanding of what the product is. However, the work “new” happens to be in green followed by “natureluxe silk foundation” with “luxe” being bolded, suggesting that this product is truly “luxury touched by nature;” which is in very small print right below that as well. In addition, I find it interesting that the two black bolded lines both have the word “air” in them and also soft, air-like words, such as “fresh” and “breath.” To me this is suggesting that even though the text may be dark and bold, this product is still going to make the user feel fresh and…

    Hollister Ad

Have you ever looked at an advertisement for clothing and thought to yourself, “Why do they pick models that they pick to advertise their clothing?” In clothing ads today, the companies use models that have a certain image, skinny, toned, muscular, and let’s not forget sexy! Mostly every clothing ad has sex appeal in them, therefore using the appeal to pathos. Not only that, they try to use a logical appeal in their ads too, such as if you want to be cool, look sexy, and fit the crowd, then you must buy their clothing. This then causes the ad to appeal to logos. I see appeals to pathos and logos in a lot of Hollister and Abercrombie clothing ads but probably the only appeal to ethos would be that Hollister is a popular name brand for clothing. In all, I believe Hollister and Abercrombie use pathos, logos and some ethos in their advertisements that appeal to both men and women and do a very good job of persuading customers into buying their clothing.…

The woman in the ad wears a low bareback dress and has a laced mask in her face. Her fical expression gives a sexy look. She has silver eyeshadow on her eyelid, soft red on her lips . The appearance of this woman and the perfume bottle placed at the bottom right-hand corner act in cooperation with each other. Definitely when the women look at the ad especially at the glamorous ad model , no women can transfer their attention. They said, “it was appealing to the eye.” I didn’t think much of it at the time. As I was on my way to my studio, I realized it was very inappropriate for me to stick those in front of my breast. This article is stating that these sandals fit all personalities and characters; no one is too cool for these sandals. In order to persuade the audience they obviously use attractive models to gain the reader’s attention. They then go on to dress the models in the clothing the words are describing. All in all they made a pretty cool looking ad that will definitely grab the attention of their audience, Cosmopolitan readers. The message is clear—buy these shoes. Whether or not that message is being conveyed in the most appropriate or effective ways is less to be desired for. The shoes are not even in the center of the picture, and in my opinion, the shoes are not the main focal point in the ad. Instead, the focus is on a woman leaning backwards on some sort of board with a very skimpy bikini bottom and loose top. She is holding a purse and has on several large bracelets, and is spraying a hose of some sort. But even all of these images are not the most disturbing. The woman's facial expression is startling. She is looking upwards and more importantly, she looks as if she's watching something terrible happen and is either scared or in danger.…

    Budweiser Ad Analysis

    • 1278 Words
    • 6 Pages

It is common for companies to use sexual persuasion in their ads by using images of attractive and barely clothed women. Sexual persuasion is used especially when trying to sell to men, but can also be persuasive to women. This advertisement was from a sports illustrated swimsuit edition in 2008. It depicts an Olympic track and field athlete Brianna Glenn, posing in a swimsuit and red stilettoes, next to a super-sized, dripping Budweiser beer. This ad also contains a red background, the Budweiser logo, and their slogan “the great American lager”. The use of this attractive, Olympic athlete, wearing nothing but a bikini uses several ad strategies. This ad uses an Olympic athlete, as a timing strategy. This ad most likely came out around the same time as the Beijing Olympics, so the track and field star is relevant in what people are already paying attention to at the time, which brings more attention to their product. We see this often in sponsorship at games, where a company is able to insert itself into a facet of our interests. Also, having an American athlete pose in their ad during the Olympics reminds the audience of Budweiser’s credibility as the “Great American Lager”.…
