Process Essay: Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies
Homemade chocolate chip cookies, for me, bring back a flood of memories. From going to my grandma's house after preschool and making them with her, and watching Jeopardy with her while they bake, to making them for almost every birthday treat in elementary school. They’re my dad’s favorite and the only cookie that my whole family can agree on. They taste better homemade because you know exactly what ingredients they have in them, and they have a memory to go with them. In this process, I will be using the Nestle Toll House recipe.
To make your cookies, first you must preheat the oven to the required temperature which is usually 375 degrees fahrenheit, gather ingredients, and equipment. You will need 2 ¼ cups of sifted all purpose flour, 1 cup of softened butter, ¾ cups packed brown sugar ¾ cups granulated sugar, 2 large eggs, 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (in my house we use Haitian vanilla), 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon salt, and 2 cups of chocolate chips. After creaming together your wet ingredients (butter, sugars, eggs, and vanilla) with an electric mixer, whisk together your dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, salt). Gradually pour your dry ingredients into the wet, about one cup at a time, and stir with the wooden spoon after each addition. After all of your ingredients are combined, add the chocolate chips and stir for a final time. Now that the dough is made, set a little bit aside to eat later, because in my opinion, that is the best part. Put the parchment paper down onto the baking sheet to insure that the cookies don’t stick. Finally, bake at the temperature and the time that the recipe says (9 to 11 minutes), and after that, pour a glass of milk and enjoy your cookies with someone you love.     Many students enter college expecting good times, knowledge, friendships, and a new sense of direction. When I first got to William Penn I didn’t believe I would gain any of that.
