CULTURE SHOCK
What is culture shock?
The term culture shock expresses lack of direction, feeling of not knowing what to do or how to do things in a new environment, and not knowing what is appropriate or inappropriate in this new environment.
I experienced this culture shock and I try to solve this problem. Since different countries have different cultures, when people get into the new country, they may encounter different challenges like:
1) Problems in communicating with the native speakers
2) Feeling sad, lonely, dejected and stressed
3) Been afraid that i can’t understand the courses because of the language
4) Lack of sleep
5) Feeling strange
I tried to suggest answers and solution about this problem, which includes;
I tried changing my attitude
Patience to go through difficulty of culture shock
Suggesting some advice from the people of my country that lives in the new country.
I evaluated this suggestion about the solutions that I should;
I Feel comfortable and try to think positively all the time
Culture shock help me redefine my life objectives.
I learn how to interact with a different culture so that I will find it valuable experience
Then I tried to force myself to apply this solution by speaking with the native speakers, because speaking with them is more effective and one thing to kill my loneliness.
I apply because I take positive steps such as changing attitude and forcing myself into this environment for me to solve the problem.

Dr. Robert Kohls, the Executive Director of Washington International Center, describes a state of being in a culture shock as “when you realize by living in a new culture that your own values are being brought into question.” He farther states that when individuals step into another culture, they begin to doubt their own values. Values, which they were taught about by their relatives and environment. Immigrants begin to question those values because they see that values of people from different culture are different and work well for those people. Due to this, immigrants realize that they have to adjust to new values and even act as they are their own. However, it is hard to be themselves if they have to change their perspective. This is what happens when individuals experience culture shock.…

    Culture shock. Defined by Webster’s dictionary as the feeling of disorientation experienced by someone when they are suddenly subjected to an unfamiliar culture, way of life, or set of attitudes. Though not always pleasant, experiencing culture shock opens the eyes of those who experience it. I know it opened mine. While I had traveled outside of my country countless times before, my moving here for college required me to change many of my ways and mind sets. At first I resisted change and was resolved to have everyone adapt to me rather than me to them. I quickly learned that is not the way to view things.…
