HOW WILL YOU INFLUENCE PEOPLE TO STRIVE WILLINGLY FOR GROUP OBJECTIVES IN YOUR ORGANIZATION? APPLY YOUR INTERPERSONAL INFLUENCE THROUGH COMMUNICATION TOWARDS ATTAINING YOUR SPECIALIZED GOALS?

ANS: Several organizational factors must be placed in order for a team to succeed:

1. Common and consistent goals that are accepted by all team members. Organizational commitment to the team concept, including support from top management.

2. Clear roles and well-defined responsibilities for members and leaders.

3. Both real and perceived power delegated to the teams.

4. Mutual accountability for team performance.

5. Recognition and reward systems that support team performance.

Teams sometimes fail because they don't adequately define leadership roles and task clarity. These may be clarified by using a shared leadership model. For example , team members may agree to take leadership responsibility for specific aspects of the team's mission. In some cases, leadership may shift to different team members on a rotating basis.

The following elements are necessary when building a cross-functional team:

1. It must contain the right members.

2. The team must have a clear direction.

3. Members must have access to the "movers and shakers" of the organization.

4. Members must agree on the standards by which they will gauge success or failure.

5. Everyone must agree on the ground rules from the start.

6. Members must have the proper training in teamwork.

Teams are not always the best way to structure work. Managers should ask themselves if requiring employees to make decisions as a group enhances or impairs work efficiency.

Group objectives essentially mean that a group of individuals recruited into an organization have the same objectives to achieve in the same time frame.
There can be many such groups in an organization having their own group

Teamwork is characterized by having a sense of purpose to achieve a clear, specific goal that all members believe is important to attain. A team can be assigned to carry out a specific project, such as seeking ways to improve profitability in a small business. A team could also be assembled to find the right candidate for a job opening. All teams should consist of members who are capable of contributing to the achievement of the goal based on their level of knowledge or expertise. If a team is assigned the task of development of an expense budget, but one or more of the members has little or no budgeting experience, the whole team will suffer as a result. A successful team contains a spirit of cooperation. All members need to work together to achieve the specific goal. This can be difficult, especially if some members possess strong personalities or are highly opinionated. Successful teams tend to have strong leaders who can keep everybody on the same page while keeping the petty bickering to a minimum. Teams should also have a set of rules that determines its operating procedures. These rules help to keep the team on track and eliminate ambiguities. For example, a team might have a rule that all team members must agree on a decision before it can be implemented. This would require that the team deliberate, much in the way of a trial jury, until a consensus is reached.…

The management needs to trust teams with important responsibilities regarding innovation, or they will revert to making safe, traditional decisions. The best teams are those that have been given a performance challenge by management and have reached a common understanding and appreciation of their purpose. In order to maintain cohesiveness in the team, one should recruit members with similar attitudes, values and backgrounds and maintain high entrance and socialization standards.…
