Primary Counselor's Recovery Case Study
Primary Counselor met with Pt. for his first individual sessions after his readmission from the program. Counselor greeted him and he explained to this writer his desire to develop a positive therapeutic relationship. Counselor and Pt. discussed her recovery progress; possible side effects due to his prescribed methadone medication and current emotional status. Pt. explained that his current prescribed 40 mg of methadone isn’t working as expected because he gets really tired at the end of the day. Pt. stated, “I would like go down in a future.” Pt. reported that he is a married, white male whom recently bought a house in the Rehoboth area. Pt. stills married and his wife is a teacher. Pt. verbalized that he is currently living with his wife …show more content…
stated that the important reasons to stop using are: taking care of sons, maintaining his marriage, business and new place, improving his health and being more financially stable. Pt. stated, “I feel better. After I decided to leave the program last time, I was self-medicating.” Counselor encouraged Pt. to discuss his current recovery progress, what he likes to do during his free time, his current financial status and some obstacles that can hinder his recovery. Pt. reported that he supports himself with his construction company. Pt indicated that the obstacle that could stand in the way of reaching his personal goals are relapsing, helping his active drug user older son, spending with negative acquaintances and getting discourage. Pt. stated that during his free time he likes to go fishing, hunting and spend time with his wife. Pt. denied any current mental health problems or suicidal ideation at the moment. Counselor offered help to find information regarding 12 step meetings in the Sussex County area, which he took with him. Pt. agreed to schedule a counseling session for the following month.
