Pride comes before a fall
After the mid-year examination results were announced, Judy was both surprised and pleased to find that she was among the top three pupils in her class. She glowed with pride as both teachers and friends congratulated her on her achievement.

After the half-term holidays, we returned to school to find a different Judy. The once humble and helpful Judy that we all knew had become arrogant and vain. Instead of mingling with everyone in the class as she had always done, she only spoke to the brains of the clas and gave short responses to anyone else. As days passed, most of us in class who used to be her friends left her to her new choice of friends.

Every pupil in the class belonged to a study groups comprising both bright and weak pupils. IN the past, Judy would be extremely helpful to the weaker pupils and in turn, she often asked for assistance from the brighter ones. After the holidays, Judy felt she was too good to require assistance from the brighter pupils in the group. She was impatiend with the slower pupils and was often ryde and hurtful to them, frequently calling them 'stupid' and 'dumb'. Gradually, her groups members did not want to have anything more to do with her and left her to do her own studying.

Soon the term tests came and went. Judy was little disappointed and shocked to find herslef in the twelfth position. The rest of us discuseed the class positions and attributed Judy's downfall to her arrogance. We felt that her average performance in the term tests was a result of her departure from the study group. We ere certain of our analysis and as one of her good friends in the past, I thought i would like to give a little advice. However, all my good intentions were snubbed by Judy who told me to mind my own business. After that, no one else bothered with her anymore, leaving her to do as she wished.

As we expected, Judy's name was nowhere near the top when the final year examination results wer announced. Instead, she was placed fifteenth. Tha

I'm six years old, and I'm secretly watching the girls in my class loudly chatting in the corner of the classroom. It's 2008, and I'm quietly sitting on my desk, wondering to myself: "Am I not important enough for a simple goodbye?". I nervously shift on the chair, impatiently waiting for the minutes to tick by. My red sweater is itching against my throat. The teacher came in and we begin class as usual. Ms. Claudia is talking about our final reflections…

Judy just wanted some sugar for her coffee. She flitted back and forth between cabinets and drawers, leaving them open as she went along busily searching for that sugar. “Where could it have possibly gone?” she half mumbled to herself, “I just used it the other day.” As she reached behind the box of cornstarch, the honey container tipped over and started oozing onto the counter that was already cluttered with piles of unopened mail, a plate with a half eaten, moldy sandwich, and a variety of orange and white medicine bottles. Distracted by the sound of the door bell ringing, Judy went to answer the door. Her daughter flew in, irritation in her voice, “Mom. Aren’t you ready yet? I’ve been calling you.”…

Recently, Ms. Lujano came to me, the special education teacher and consultant, sharing about her uneasiness due to how Mr. Santiago treats one of his students. This student, Joey, has been diagnosed with an emotional disability. I have seen his struggles dealing with tardiness, his temper, and understanding boundaries. Ms. Lujano brought it to my attention that Mr. Santiago struggles with communicating with Joey. Instead of calmly discussing issues with Joey, Mr. Santiago raises his voice and shouts at Joey. This leads to Joey acting out more and often concluding with Joey getting…
