Anton Cahoon left a successful career in manufacturing to purchase an independent motel, near an interstate highway exit, a short distance from a rapidly expanding resort area. Mr. Cahoon relied only upon passersby as clientele with little other advertising. For the first two years operations went smoothly, however the Goodnight Inn had not become profitable. While occupancy rates stabilized near 55%, they were still well below the industry average of 68%. Anton had run his motel avoiding “unnecessary expenses”, and as a result had a 40% price advantage over the full-service hotels in his market area. Customer surveys found the GoodNight Inn acceptable. After much thought, Anton has begun to consider affiliating with a either Holiday Inn or Days Inn, both offering the advantages of a central reservation system, and their national marketing presence.…

Priceline.com is an e-commerce site which when founded in 1998, brought forth a new angle to conduct business. Traditionally marketers scan the market to determine which prices purchasers are willing and able to pay for products or services. The sellers then offer their product for a price which meets their internal criteria. With priceline, instead of the seller setting the price, the buyer makes an offer of what he or she is willing to pay and sellers compete for the buyers business. This innovation represented a first in that general non commercial consumers have never been able to name the price they will pay and have sellers respond.…

Historically, most hotel arrangements were booked through travel agents. Although Internet bookings today are still primarily through travel agents, many are made directly with the hotel properties through websites that offer general travel arrangements or, in some instances, specifically hotel arrangements. Most consumers merely acknowledge acceptance of the extensive exculpatory language present in website booking programs without giving any thought to what would occur should problems arise. Many lawyers have had clients come to them with Internet hotel booking…

It is no wonder that booking hotel rooms can now be done in a more convenient way today. If a certain traveler is planning to visit a foreign place, it would be hard for him if he does not have a hotel or residence to reside in that country. Before, booking a certain hotel room required long processes such as talking to a hotelier either in person or through the phone. Just imagine the disposition of the hotelier if multiple clients came to ask questions about reservations at the same time. Through an online hotel reservation system, hoteliers and travelers will both be benefited. Hotels have minimal need of travel agents to look for clients because information about their business establishment is readily available online.…
