Have you ever felt the need to improve your life? I joined the cross country team in sixth grade to do just that. Cross country requires tremendous amounts of hard work, dedication, and never giving up to succeed in.…
A memory from my athletics that will stick with me forever was the last time I was able to lace up and play basketball on our home court. We played a long time rival, Aquin. The game was down to the wire and I was able to tie the game with 24 seconds left. Then we got the ball back and Ellie was fouled with about a second left, which if anyone on our team were to be put on the line, I would choose her. She went up and swooshed the first shot! Then, since Aquin wouldn't be able to get the rebound, make it down the court, and shoot with the time left, coach told her to miss the second shot. Ellie then winded up and chucked the ball right off the backboard so they ended up getting the ball out of bounds anyway. We blocked the throw in, and I ran…
Yes, I think football is dangerous. I love watching football games but It is very harmful. Football can ruin many lives. Football has lead to suicides, concussions, Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), which is a degenerative brain disease that can result in mood changes and dementia. As it says in the story, “in defense of football”.…
Did you know that more than ever NFL players are having more and more serious injuries? A study done over 2000 NFL games shows that NFL players are at more risk than ever. The reason for this surge of injuries is, the turf fields. Because of the way turf is designed it tends to be a lot harder than grass…
To express his believe about stretching one’s limit, the great Guy Finley had once stated, “The limit of your present understanding is not the limit of your possibilities.” Inspired by his quote, I, Giang Pham, believe that I would be a valuable member of McGarvin’s Academic Pentathlon team. Based on my personal knowledge of Pentathlon, I have first-handedly experience the soul of a Pentathlete through various study sessions at Ethan Allen. Because of this, I have developed a deep insight of the components necessary to be a true Pentathlete. In addition to having first-hand experience, I also have extremely high expectations for both myself and other students, for it is essential in my academic growth. With this, one like myself could ultimately…
I have been running since I started Modified Track and Field in the seventh grade. Running has been a part of my life ever since then. When I decided to join track I felt as though it was the worst mistake that I could have ever made, simply because i did not like running as a child. After trying it for the first year and not giving up I enjoyed it very much and that is when I stated that I would continue to run track till I graduated high school. Then came ninth grade and not only did I continue to do Outdoor Track but I also joined Indoor Track and it helped me improve with my running for Outdoor Track. I participated in Soccer from sixth grade till ninth grade, because come tenth grade I realized I had a strong passion for running,…
For as long as can remember I have had problems with my knee. It all started back in middle school, when we were playing basketball in our math class. My teacher at the time, Mr. Siem, would play with us. On this particular day, we were on opposing teams and he was bringing down the ball. When I went to defend him, he never stopped and he ran into me. His knee landed on mine with all of his weight. I knew right away that something was wrong.…
The game of soccer has always come natural to me. Competing in the game of soccer is what I love to do. Being physical is something I’ve never been scared of. If I’m being completely honest, going in hard on tackles is what I’m known for. Being a physical player is a strength of mine. Being physical in the game of soccer always comes with the risk of getting hurt. Two years ago I took that risk of getting hurt, and getting hurt is exactly what happened.…
Boom! The hit of the pads on that field whether its Friday night, Saturday morning, or Sunday afternoon its always the right time to throw on the pads and play and/or watch the amazing sport of football.…
The vibration of the basketball hitting the ground is the best feeling the world. Light was shining through the humongous windows onto the worn out gym floor like a flash light. The other teams jerseys were as red as a rose...and as red as the blood pouring out of my mouth. Thats a good story. I am here to tell you about it.…
Sports medicine is a lot more than people think it is. It is not just running out on the football field when someone gets injured and walking them to the sidelines and making sure they are okay, it is not just telling someone not to play a sport for a certain amount of time so that they can let their body take a rest. It is looking into the body and figuring out which muscles and bones cannot handle as much pressure and pain as the others. It is surgery and sometimes crushing people’s dreams of never being able to play their favorite sport again.…
I made my own decision that I would continue to play football, after I got done with recovery. Probably asking in your mind,”Well why do you have to go to rehab?’’ Good question, It was my first game back from my first mishap, where I dislocated my shoulder. I had been playing a little that night, but not a whole lot because it was my first game back and I didn't know much about the position I was playing. It was kickoff, and I was on the very end of the field, in my position ready to make the tackle, bound and determined i was gonna make it. I made the tackle, but it didn't go the way i had planned it to go. Instead of making the tackle and standing up and cheering with the team, I made the tackle and laid on the ground in so much pain i thought…
I was sitting in my freshman geometry class, talking to some friends about injuries. We were talking about how none of us have ever gotten injured in our entire life. I had been playing sports since I was in the sixth grade, and nothing ever happened. In my life I had never broken a bone. I had never even sprained an ankle. I had never worn any kind of brace, taped an ankle, or talked to a trainer about any muscle issue or pain issue. When kids would lay on the court, I always thought they were fine or looking for a little attention. My thought was that they needed to rush off the court because they were dripping sweat all over the hardwood floor, and they were taking too much time up. I used to assume they were killing our momentum when they would fall down and cry because some schools…
My dream is to be an athletic trainer, coach, or having something to do with staying close to sports. In order to follow my dream, I would need to visit some place that would allow me to experience a career that has to do with sports. That’s why with the ticket I am holding in my hand, I would be able to get admitted into the locker room area where I can see coaches as well as trainers do their jobs.…
“Cameron, you can’t play football you’ll die,” My mother told me in her usual serious tone, I could always count on my mom to keep it 100% reality even though I hated it. I wanted to play football so bad for three years I've literally had dreams of me playing defensive back, my wishful position, and being able to play with my emotions and do very well. I stopped pursuing football even though deep down I was still set on football.…
