Trump’s Inauguration Speech

On January 20, 2017, Trump officially became the President of the United States. His Inauguration speech addresses how the people of America will finally have a say in government and that we will all come together as one country. To portray his message, Trump used a solemn tone, strong diction, and constructed syntax to show the people his professionalism towards his new title and what he plans to do during his first term. He warmingly starts off by thanking some former presidents, “President Carter, President Clinton, President Bush, President Obama....”, the American people especially, and everyone around the world for his election win. His voice is very direct and to the point when he states how he would approach the nation as a whole: “We, the citizens of America, are now joined in a great national effort to rebuild our country and to restore it's promise for all of our people”. The formal tone allowed a flow through his speech that showed his thoughts clearly and straightforwardly. The short pauses created tension and a sense of understanding between President Trump and his audience. Much of his

“The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country. Their victories have not been your victories; their triumphs have not been your triumphs; and while they celebrated in our nation's capital, there was little to celebrate for struggling families all across our land”. His sentences are short and straight to the point because it reflects who he is as a person who is brutally honest and doesn’t hold anything back.
By using a formal tone, structured diction, and a vernacular syntax, the nation and others saw a different side to Trump .He appropriately expressed his ideas on the social and economic problems that he will approach and that America will finally become a nation of the people, instead of it being in favor of the

President Washington opened his speech by announcing that after giving a lot of thought to it, he had decided to retire and did not want to be considered for a 3rd term as President of the United States. The weight of the office was wearing on him, and he felt that it was time for him to step away from political life and allow someone else to accept the position. Washington was very grateful to those who placed him in the position. He also expressed gratitude to those who supported the decisions he made while in Office and attempting to make all the right choices to lead the Country in the right direction. He was grateful for the opportunities he had been given. He acknowledged that he could not have accomplished any of it without the support of the citizens. He urged to the citizens to care for and defend the constitution, as well as each other and that if they did that, the country would prosper. Barack Obama, the next president of United States of America, uses words with strong images and connotations within his speech to effectively express his opinions. For instance, in the fourth line of his speech, he states that “But our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions- that time has surely passed.” The word “pat” denotes small influence, often insignificant. This word is implying that Americans have been too boasting about the influential standing of America in the World, without acknowledging the weakening of the country. Additionally, the word “narrow” refers to “narrow-minded” and in this statement, Obama is strongly implying that America has been only looking for the direct interests…

There were multiple wide shots in this speech, but there was one that stuck out to me the most. This wide shot was very specific to everyone and made me feel very empowered. The wide shot that stood out to me the most is when Trump said, “We are one nation. When one state hurts, we all hurt – and we must all work together to lift each other up. Working, building, restarting together.” This part of his speech is very empowering and makes you want to get up and help the country out some how. This quote makes me actually want to vote for Trump because he is reassuring us that we can do it if we all do it together. I am big into team work, so for him to show this team bonding side of him is very reassuring and interesting. When speakers put wide…

For my second media response, I chose to analyze Donald Trump’s Presidential speeches. Donald Trump is currently campaigning for the American 2016 President election in the United States. His first campaign as President was in the year of 2000, with two victories of Reform Party primaries (Wikipedia). Trump became well-known for his hatred towards illegal immigration and free trade agreements, in addition, to his free trade view on foreign policies. (Wikipedia). Trump owns his own company called The Trump Organization, he is the President and the Chairman of his companies (Wikipedia). He is also the founder of the gaming and hotel enterprise of the Trump Entertainment Resorts, but it is now owned by Carl Icahn (Wikipedia). During Trump’s speeches,…

In his inaugural speech Bush uses various stylistic devices to convince the listener of his opinion and of him, being the right candidate for presidency. His speech falls into eight parts. It is obviously important for the speaker to create an atmosphere of trust, therefor he uses a biblical allusion in line 41 ´´God bless you all, and God bless America.´´. Bush employs alliteration, as proof you can refer to line 9 ´´flawed and fallible people´´ to reduce an usually rhytmic effect and to make the description of the people more forcefully, that they are not perfect and likely to make mistakes and therefore the people today can identify with those. An instance of syntactical parallelism occurs in line 11 ´´ that everyone belongs, that everyone deserves´´ to draw the listener´s attention to the fact that no one is excluded from the American promise. ´´A rock in a raging sea´´ (ll.15/16), that is a metaphor to stimulate the listener´s imagination and to show how strong America´s faith in freedom and democracy was. The speaker makes use of enumeration mixed with alliteration ´´civility, courage,…
