"Precious" Movie Review
“Precious” The Movie Review Precious is a girl who is so shy and shut down, She is very quiet to the point that she hardly speaks to anyone and is nearly illiterate. As the story is told, she conceives a child from a rape that occurred to her. Precious tries her very best to fit in with others, but as she struggles in school is treated with mocking cruelty. She is a girl obviously in a lot of pain and shame. Even though her mother is always angry her she vows to happily find her purpose in life. She feels that she can positively make a life for herself with the help she found in a counselor who treats her with respect and fully understands her pain and suffering. This is such an amazing actress who has powerfully done a remarkable film. I truly recommend those young girls who are going through the same situation to see this wonderfully done film.

Second paragraph

I have to compare my life as the second paragraph to the first, because I can relate to the worse of situation that Precious went through in her life. In my life I have felt like Precious never having that feeling of being the sweetest person. I always felt cheaper that most girls. It was a hard life to live, but as I got older I became wiser and I felt as though I was the luckiest girl to have survived such an ordeal. Sometimes life never paints the prettiest picture of the life we would like to have live, but being determine and having the faith to survive is the most powerful thing anyone can have. I have a son and a daughter and I vowed to be a strong mom for them. I have two of the smartest kids a mom can have and because of them I live a joyous

    Spirited Away Review

Spirited away is an enchanting, dazzling, and gorgeously drawn fairy tale that will leave the viewers a little more curious and fascinated by the world around them. This Japanese animated fantasy film was directed and written by Hayao Miyazaki, and was released on July 27, 2001. The story was based on Miyazaki’s friend’s ten year old daughter, who visited his house every summer. The movie portrays a sullen ten year old girl, Chihiro Ogino (voice by Daveigh Chase), and her parents who were driving to their new home, when her father takes a wrong turn and ends up at what they think is an abandoned amusement park, but really is an alternate reality inhabited by monsters and spirits. Witch Yubaba turns her parents into pigs, and in order to find a way to free herself and her parents and escape into the human world, Chihiro takes a job working at Yubaba’s bathhouse. This movie can compare to ‘Alice in the Wonderland’ because they both tell the story of a 10-year-old girl who wanders into a world of strange creatures and illogical rules. It was a little hard to interpret the meaning and moral of the movie at first, but it was still a pleasure to watch. The cinematography was well done and the animations were well flowing and seemed to dance off the screen. Director Miyazaki’s drawing style is incredible, and is much different from classical Japanese graphic artists, with its clear lines, rich detail, subtle uses of colors, and the realistic deception of fantastic elements. The music in this film was composed and conducted by Miyazaki's regular collaborator Joe Hisaishi, and performed by the New Japan Philharmonic. The music was beautifully put together, and in the special features of the DVD, Hayao Miyazaki explains how the song in fact inspired him to create Spirited Away. Therefore, I give this film an A-, and Spirited away is a work of pagan imagination that everyone should watch…

    Precious Film Analysis

She is often taunted and bullied in the streets by thugs and then gets home to be treated as sub-human. But she has conditioned herself to be dehumanized. As much as she is determined to get out and move forward, her mother is equally determined to keep her down. After all, if she allows Precious to leave, her welfare checks will stop. She is not interested in moving from the front of the television set. As far as Mary’s concerned, Precious is not human and she definitely does not see her as her daughter. She’s only good for the role of her domestic. Precious expects to hear insults slurred at her, she expects to have trash hurled at her or dumped on her by her mother, Mary and the rest of the world. She accepts it all with numbness and nonchalance. The film adopts the personality of the protagonist who narrates the story and allows us to glimpse into her coping mechanism of wishful escape fantasies. Deep at the heart of “Precious” lies a truly poignant and inspirational story, which is no doubt, handled with great care and sincerity. “Precious” could easily be overstated, sentimental or rife with clichés, but rather it is loaded with surprises that invoke gasps of horror at times and tears of joy at other times. She is ashamed, humiliated and disgusted at herself but she escapes into her fantasy dream world where we hear voiceovers and flashing lights as everyone clamors for a glimpse of her on the red carpet, where her gorgeous Romeo awaits her with open…

Everyone has quirks that make him or her an individual. We filter through life, attempting to seamlessly weave our oddities into a “normal” person. As difficult as trying to fit circles into squares, the silver lining in these valiant attempts is that the “normal” person doesn’t exist. That is what writer-director David O. Russell understood when making The Silver Linings Playbook, The film is a fantastic study in how our individual quirks, though varying in degree, have the ability to render all of us completely insane.…

A story of an illiterate, obese Harlem teenager who is impregnated by her drug addicted father for the second time and who suffers physical, mental and sexual abuse by her mother doesn’t exactly scream “date night.” Yet powerful performances by newcomers and tour de force acting by some unexpected names make Precious a film that should not be ignored.…

    "Taken"-Movie Review

    • 667 Words
    • 3 Pages

The film Taken portrays the quest of Bryan Mills - a father and retired CIA agent - to rescue his daughter, Kim, who was kidnapped while on a trip to Paris, on the very first day! Bryan retired from kicking ass and taking names to try and build a real and not-as-exciting father-daughter relationship with Kim, who lives where any other spoiled rich girl would live, California. Due to the fact that Kim thinks she can become a singer, he buys her a ridiculously expensive karaoke machine. Of course, that goes south when her rich stepfather has an even more expensive gift for her that has absolutely nothing to do with pop or singing: a horse. Days later, Bryan finds out that Kim wants to go with her friend, Amanda, to Europe for “educational purposes” alone, and that his ex-wife, Lenore, like any other rich mother of a spoiled rich girl in California, supports them. Knowing how gullible his wife is and how the story is obvious b.s., Bryan takes a glimpse into his daughter’s bag at the airport and realizes that they’re actually planning on following the awesome Irish band U2 across Europe during their Vertigo Tour. Being a fan of U2 himself, Bryan lets them go with the simple request that Kim contacts him as soon as they arrive in Paris. They arrive in Paris and completely forget about contacting Bryan, instead riding around with a complete stranger and telling him everything about their stay because, what’s the worse that could happen? Later in the day, upset over the fact that Kim wasn’t able to follow simple instructions (and possibly that he wasn’t invited), Bryan calls her and during the conversation Kim and Amanda are taken by gangsters! Determined to upstage the stepfather’s horse gift, Bryan refreshes his skills as a former badass and sets out to save his daughter from losing her virginity to prostitution, and hopefully get to see at least one of U2’s performances.…
