Abstract :
Time, Material, labour, cost are most efficient things to construct any civil engineering structures. But at present the available requirement of labour is more difficult for any civil engineering constructions and also construction time is increase and labour cost is high and material waste is increase. For avoiding these problems Precast Concrete Technology is come to exist.
The reasons to choose Precast Construction are it is modular, have more strength, durable, efficiency, speed, low maintenance cost and quality finish and also it is not required curing and plastering. This Paper describes why and when to choose Precast construction , types of Precast systems, Precast Concrete Elements in construction , Transportation of Elements to the site, Erection and installation of Precast Elements, Connections/Joints and applications of Precast Concrete in Civil Engineering Projects.
Introduction:
Ancient Roman builders made use of concrete and soon poured the material into moulds to build their complex network of aqueducts, culverts, and tunnels. Modern uses for pre-cast technology include a variety of

Also, it was used in building castles and forts to fortify and protect them from their enemies. Concrete was a great material in building city walls and bridges on the rivers to make the movement of the people and the armies easier. It was used to erect the aqueducts to supply the houses and the public places with water, as well. Furthermore, with the concrete, the Romans managed to build many great buildings, which managed to survive such as the Colosseum.…

One of the first inventions that the Romans made, was concrete. Concrete was used to be made as a glue like substance for building structures. The Roman concrete was made of lime, seawater and volcanic ash. According to the Article, Building materials and Techniques, on page one and paragraph five, it states that “Sometime in the third century B.C., Roman builders discovered that adding a special kind of of sand to lime, in a ratio of two or…

When concrete is poured it contracts and heats up. This means that you cannot pour a whole lot all at one time or it will take years to dry if it is a big enough structure that you are building. A good example of this is the hoover dam which used over 3.3 million yards on concrete in the making of it. A common misconception is that they poured all the concrete at one time and waited for it to dry if they would of did it this way with all the heat that would have built up it would have taken over 125 years for it all to dry.…

Modular construction has been around since the early 1900’s in the form of prefabrication but the way it is used has changed. Modular construction uses many trades to build a portion of the entire construct off site, such as complete walls with insulation, sheet rock and electrical compared to the traditional prefabrication that utilized only one trade. Due to the repetitive nature in commercial buildings, these are the most desired for this form of construction. Based on a survey of contractors in Contractors Magazine concerning modular construction 77% reported a decrease in waste, 65% reported a decrease in the project budget, and 66% reported a decrease on project time schedules. There are also benefits to modular construction concerned with the speed of the production for these units at the factory where they are made. The units are made almost at the level of a production line and unlike out in the field the workers can build the units at a comfortable level along with enjoying a controlled environment. The factory style of building these units allows for employees to enjoy less stress on their bodies, minds, and personal vehicles which allows the employee to have a longer career. The benefits for the client include enjoying dictation of scheduling, a safer environment at the job site with less debris, and higher quality product.…

Aluminum formwork is a rapid pace construction system for forming cast in place concrete structures. Formwork the term given to either temporary or permanent molds into which concrete or similar materials are poured. In the context of concrete construction, the “falsework” supports the shuttering molds. This formwork is built out of prefabricated modules with a metal frame (usually steel or aluminum) and covered on the application (concrete) side with material having the wanted surface structure (steel, aluminum, timber, etc.). In this method, aluminum beams are created out of telescoping pieces allowing the beams to span various lengths and be reused for constructing structures of varying sizes. Aluminum formwork can also be used for scheduling and controlling the work of other construction trades such as steel reinforcement, concrete placement, and mechanical and electrical trades…

FOREWORD This Indian Standard ( Fourth Revision ) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on 30 October 1989, after the draft finalized by the Cement .and Concrete Sectional Committee had been approved by the Civil Engineering Division Council. Portland slag cement is obtained by mixing, Portland cement clinker, gypsum and granulated slag in suitable proportions and grinding the mixture to get a thorough and intimate mix between the constituents. It may also be manufactured by separately grinding Portland cement clinker, gypsum and granulated slag and then mixing them intimately.. The resultant product is a cement which has physical properties similar to those of ordinary Portland cement. In addition, it has low heat of hydration and is relatively better resistant to soils and water containing excessive amounts of sulphater of alkali metals. alumina and iron, as well- as to acidic waters, and can, therefore, be ‘used for marine works with advantage. The manufacture of Portland slag cement has been developed primarily to utilize blastfumace slag, a waste product from blastfurnaces. The development of manufacture of this type of cement will considerably increase the total output of cement production in the country and will, in addition, provide a profitable use for an otherwise waste product. The slags obtained from other types of furnaces, but having identical properties as those of granulated blastfumace slag conforming to this standard, may also be used for manufacture of Portland slag cement. This standard was first published in lb53 and subsequently revised in 1962,1967 and 1976. This fourth revision incorporates…
