Chen Show Mao was a Taiwan-descent born on 6th February 1961. He moved to Singapore at the age of 11 and took up Singapore citizenship in 1986. He is currently a Member of Parliament for Aljunied Group Representation Constituency (GRC). Academic

Since young, Chen has displayed unquestioned academic and intellectual ability. He studied at National Junior College (NJC) and emerged as the top student in Singapore of his cohort for ‘A’ levels results in 1979. He has also demonstrated his exceptional leadership qualities. He was the president of the students’ council in NJC and served as a platoon commander during his time in National Service (NS). Following his excellent A-levels results, he applied for medical school in National University of Singapore but was rejected. He then went on to Harvard to study economics in 1982. In 1988, he became a Rhodes Scholar and went to Oxford University to study history and languages. In 1992, he received his Juris Doctor from Stanford Law School and finally in 2005, he received his Master of Arts (Jurisprudence) from Oxford University. Career

After graduating in 1992, Chen practiced as a corporate lawyer at prestigious Davis Polk and Wardwell law firm in New York, Hong Kong and finally managing the Beijing’s office as a managing partner. He has extensive experience in merger and acquisitions (M&A) as well as international securities offerings. He is well-known and top-notched in his field. His two most notable career achievements as a lawyer were in 2006 and 2010. In 2006, Chen led a team a Davis Polk to advise Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited (ICBC) in its initial public offering (IPO) which raised $19 billion and was the world’s largest in value of that time. More impressively, the IPO was dual listing in both Hong Kong and Shanghai market which was the first of its kind. In 2010, he led another dual listing (Hong Kong and Shanghai) IPO for Agriculture Bank of China (Agbank) which raised $22.1 billion,...
