Potential Tourism Spots of Bangladesh

Abstract:
Bangladesh is a country which is blessed with lot of natural beauties. Tourism of Bangladesh can add value if proper plan and strategy can be built and implemented. Bangladeshi Tourism market is mainly depended on local and foreign tourists. Tourism in Bangladesh is generally depends on some famous tourism spots. But there are lot of other tourism spots in Bangladesh which have not yet got recognitions as a part of our main tourism spots. But these places have all the potentiality and aspect of becoming one of the best tourism spots of our country. Tourism spots should be properly explored, so that it can bring positive contribution towards increase of Gross Domestic Product. This report tried to introduce some of these places with natural features of those places. The report also includes some recommendations which are necessary for the development of less famous tourism spots of Bangladesh.

Introduction:

Bangladesh has already crossed forty years of its tourism industry but yet we still see it in a promising position in comparison to our neighbouring countries. Despite having all the potential to flourish, tourism in this country has been growing at a very slow pace. Bangladesh is not known as a tourist destination in the international tourism market. Only 3 lacs foreign tourists came to Bangladesh in 2010, of which more than 70 percent came for business and official purposes. The contribution of the earning from tourism to the country’s GDP is less than 1 percent. The sector got recognition as an industry in 1999. But it never received attention from the government to become a vibrant industry. Whereas many countries which started much later than Bangladesh, for example – Maldives, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos have developed their tourism industry much faster than our country and earning huge revenues from this sector. Bangladesh is the land of green countryside, Serpentine river, natural wonders and colorful cultural life. Bangladesh has so many tourism spots for any kind of tourists and also it has huge potentiality to become one of the top tourism nations of the world. In this report I am going to introduce five tourism spots of Bangladesh which are not yet so much popular to the local and international tourists. There are also several others less popular tourism destinations in Bangladesh but these five tourism spots have been chosen randomly for preparing this short report. The main intention is to promote these places to the readers who have keen interest about our tourism places. Also people can propagate the raw information to others through this report and they can contribute for the development of our tourism industry by doing so.

1. Ratargul Swamp Forest

Ratargul Swamp Forest is a freshwater swamp forest located in Sylhet, Bangladesh. Exactly it is situated by the river Goain and linked with the cannel Chengir Khal. The water of a swamp may be Fresh water, brackish water or Seawater. Ratargul swamp forest is the only swamp forest located in Bangladesh and one of the few freshwater swamp forests in the world. Ratargul swamp forest goes under water seasonally. The water comes here from the adjacent Goain River. Water of this beautiful forest is so clear that anyone can see the bottom layer. Water level never remains in the same level on this forest. It depends on the quantity of rainfalls. During the rainy season it is submerged under 20 to 30 feet water. Other time, it remains almost dry. The water level stays between 5 feet to 10 feet except rainy season.

Total area of the forest is 3325.61 acres, among which 504 acres of forest was declared wildlife sanctuary in 1973. There are almost 25 species of plants like Jarul, Kodom, Borun, Pitali, Arjun and many other trees...
