My parents always told me to be a leader, not a follower. They were basically telling me not follow other people into trouble. I’m trying to improve my leadership skills. Leadership is not something you can learn from a book, but you have to gain the skill through experiences such as holding an office, organizing an event, speaking in front of people, or participating in a leadership program. This is one of the reasons I want to be part of ALPFA’s leadership program. I want to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to make a different in my career and my life. Throughout my high school career, I have been given numerous opportunities to lead other students by example, work ethic, volunteerism, and school involvement. I believe that my greatest impact as a leader in high school has been through my participation in a Service Learning Class. This class gave me the chance to help and lead others by tutoring younger students in the middle school and elementary school. As a senior, I felt responsible for providing a voice for the class in ideas and decisions to help better our school. I worked with administrators, teachers, and class members to promote healthy habits of responsibility, school pride, respect, and service.…

I am a great leader and throughout my high school career I have taken every opportunity I could to display this. For three out of my four years I have participated as a Muskoka Woods Leader. This required me to spend a week at a summer camp at which I would lead a group of grade 7s through a series of fun activities. Being a leader at this camp wasn't always fun and games though. I had encountered many situations with the grade 7s in which I would have to improvise and apply my knowledge of leadership to sort out. For example, during one of our games we would play, there was a little boy who was sitting off on the side not participating. I went over to talk to the boy to find out what was wrong. When I found out that he didn't understand how to play the game I knew exactly how to fix it. I brought him over to a corner and me and him played our own little one on one version of the game. I taught him how to play and I played with him until he was finally ready to join the other grade 7s. As well as being a Muskoka Leader, in my grade 11 year, I was a Link Leader for my high school. This was different from being a Muskoka Leader because this time I was working with grade 9 students who were entering high school. Throughout the year I worked with the grade 9s giving them secret tips and tricks about how they could survive their freshman year of high…

I feel the strongest aspect of my worldview is my tremendous sense of ethics. They help to guide my actions and decisions everyday. Ethics to me lay the foundations of a person’s character. I always strived to do the best that I can, in everything that I do, and this especially applies to academics. In 6th grade, I joined the honors program at my middle school; from then on forward, I made sure than my work was of high enough quality so that the following year I would be placed in honors courses. These courses are what I believe prepared me for my success in high school. I got a taste of what it was like to be in an environment where every pupil was hungry for an education and for knowledge, and I grew to want to learn as much as my classmates. I entered high school with courses that upperclassmen had that challenged me more than anything else had before. It was during my freshman year of high school that I realized that I couldn’t…

As a straight A student all my life I have to work extra hard each and every day to be able to accomplish even my simplest goals because I know I should always push myself to become better at beating the game, that is life. But while all this is true, I know that no matter how hard I work I cannot possibly achieve all my goals and dream no matter what actions I take, at least not alone. John Quincy Adams once said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.” This powerful words are extremely meaningful, especially to me. This means that if you try your hardest regularly to not only gain new knowledge, become more productive, make new goals and wonder about your future, and become a better you, no matter what circumstances you are under you are a person who will help others even unintentionally. Personally, I know it can sometimes be hard to get through the day while being alert and ready to work, but when I see someone who is dedicated to not only exceeding themselves but to make others succeed too, it makes me want to do the same. I always go out of my way to help others because that is what a real leader would do. Joining the Beta Club where each member is a leader will allow me to…
