Herr and Anderson (2015) describe traditional action research as having and emphasis on efficiency and improvement of practice as compared to participatory research which focuses on a broader societal analysis with the emphasis being on equity, self-reliance and issues of oppression. In contrast, appreciative inquiry is appreciative of the need for positive communication in the nursing home. This research will use observations of staff and present the themes developed from the filed notes to the focus group in an effort to collaborate regarding concerns, thoughts and solutions.
