position paper
Hey, have you ever ate at the UTD dining hall? Well I haven’t, but I heard that’s its pretty bad. So I decided to go and eat there for 5 days straight to see whats going to happen. But just after eating there for the second day I found it hard to write position paper for a wider range of dining options at UTD. The main reason is that why on earth would you eat at the same place for 5 days? Even eating at the best restraunt for 5 days would be sick. But at Utd there are many other options and variety of foods to choose from. And when your tired of it, cook for yourself, cause that’s a good skill to learn.
Just before I begin explaining my 5 day experience at the UTD dining hall. I would like to tell you a little history about dining hall. The dining hall was first opened at august 2009 (I am pretty sure that was the result of many students complaining about dining options at UTD). But anyways I did some research about the hours of the dining hall and what they serve.

•Dinner 5pm – 7:30pm
•Light Dinner 7:30pm – 9pm

Saturday & Sunday

•Brunch 10:30am-2:30pm
•Dinner 4:30pm-7pm

For me my 5 day experiment I started on a saterday afternoon at around 1pm. I have to complain a little since it cost 10 dollars to eat there and I will be 50 by the end of my eexperiment, but when compared to other “all-you-can-eat” buffets, the price is pretty reasonable. since it was 1pm at saterday and only brunch was served, the food was still amazing, there was lots of selections to choose from. I tried almost all the food served and took notes on what they served so I could compare it each day. One of the weirdest thing I tried was cinnamon on rice (tasted just like what it sounds). On the end of the first day I wrote awesome, good food, and That’s when I figured out how hard its to write a position paper for a wider range of food and decided to change my thesis. On the second day It’s a day that changed instead of paying 10$ and eating the food again I asked permission to just walk in and take notes. I specificly sought for food that’s not been there the last day and there was variety (different food to choose from) and it was a Sunday! To be continued maybe…

Apart from the dining hall there is other options such as the comet café which consists of subway papajohns and chickfila and chef’s table. All are different with different selections of drinks and chips. There is also the pub which I haven’t been to yet, but the food is great. There’s also a bookstore Coffe shop, Coffee Corner and Novel Brew which sells sandwiches coffee/tea and other drinks. And there is also a food truck somewhere around the campus which sells fries and stuff. There is a recently opened outakes plave where you could get coffee soups/ salad and hot potatoe bar and also sushi. And if that’s not enough there are plenty of vending machines scattered all over the place when you need a quick snack.

Some people may say that there needs to be a wider range of food. But there is a lot of food. If you want new food everyday that’s unreasonable. I believe UTD already have a wide selection of food and if they push for more that would be awesome. And seriously chick-fila for a semester is good enough for me.

As LUC students, we are very fortunate to have food readily available to us in the dining halls. The food options off campus around LUC are minimal, so it is ideal to have halls on campus that have different foods to choose from. These halls have many different problems surrounding the specific dining experience though, which affects current and prospective students, faculty, and staff. A recent article from the Phoenix reports that the hygiene of the dining hall employees has room for improvement. A student claimed, “he saw dining hall workers go out for a cigarette and come straight back to serving food” (Beckford 1). There have been reports of bugs in the salad bar and mold in the icemakers. Also, the dining halls have received lower levels on food inspections due to temperature problems that could potentially affect anyone who eats there. Although there were reports of roaches at the University of Chicago in 2012, which is worse than any reports at LUC, it is still very important that LUC works to improve the hygiene at their dining halls (Beckford 2).…

Peppercorn Dining is a restaurant on the All American University campus and serves students who have purchased “meal plans” as well as cash-paying customers. A group of consultants from Square One Consulting was having lunch at Peppercorn when they bump into Drew, Peppercorn’s manager. One of the consultants, Erica, worked at Peppercorn as a student. Based on this chance meeting, Drew describes the situation at Peppercorn as he sees it and they eventually reach an agreement to do some operational auditing. After several days, the group of three consultants, Roger, Lynn, and Erica, collect data from managers at the restaurant, representatives from the parent dining organization for the university, and from various student, full time, and temporary employees. Their interviews cover various operations functions, including serving, the kitchen, cashiers, dishwashers, and supplies.…

The college student market is currently influencing the expansion of university food services. Due to the dining unit options as well as increasing off campus competitors, college students are not tolerating poor quality of food served by university dining services. The college student market is currently influencing the development of institutional food service. To satisfy the basic nutritional needs of students, university and college food service operations need to deliver a variety of fresh, healthy and tasty food. Student food service is one of the competitive markets today, competing with other food service such as fast food and vending machines. Today’s college students are expecting more than the good food quality and nutritional value of the food they consume (Gramling et al., 2005). In addition, institutional food service operators need to keep up with the growing expectations of consumers about the overall dining experience. Thus, it is important for food service operators to fully recognize the wants of students and meet their needs.…
