Brazil was colonized by Portugal for almost 300 years. For some people, the Portuguese colonization can be explained more as a process of sources exploration, imposition of religious culture and others numerous reasons for the Brazilian delay with respect to its economic and even political development, usually remembered as The Cursed Legacy (A Herança Maldita in portuguese). For others, however, it brought great benefits and customs that differs us from others colonized countries. Inevitably Brazil suffered huge impacts that reflect on our social and economic status nowadays. As Darcy Ribeiro states in his book “Brazilian People”, “In contrast to the people they found here, all of them structured in autonomous, anarchic tribes and not stratified into classes, the horde of invaders was the local vanguard of a vas and ancient urban and classist civilization.” Brazilian civilization process was instituited by Portuguese colonizers in basically two ways: (1) by the exploration of national sources and native workforce and (2) by the evangelization process. Combined with other reasons, Brazil has now some characteristics that are consequence of Portuguese colonization and Chatolic Church influence on government management. Unlike other lands colonized by Spanish, British, Dutch, among others, the exploration made by Portuguese colonization had to get the support of the Brazilian native people in order to practice extractivism. Altough this support was something more obliged rather than legitimate, inevitably had a relationship established between colonizers and colonized. With this cultural interchange, some customs and values that were brought from Portugal prevailed and started to build an urban and classist civilization.
