The definition of rivalry has now reached the range of sports. To beat your rival is the greatest feeling in sports, because it gives the victor this type of swagger and bragging rights for the team/city that carries throughout the rest of the season. But it doesn’t just matter about the players and the results, but as a franchise of the Portland Timbers it can reach a new level with the adding of the fans, the stadium and the environment of the city on game day. The Portland Timbers are a better soccer club than the Seattle Sounders because of the players, the “keep it weird” Portland environment, and of course the fans.

When translated into soccer, that ally for the players is the fans. The 90th minute has been characterized as the most dangerous minute for the home team. Because that is when the fans give their last big shout to propel the player into victory. Saying that Portland fans are better than Seattle fans would be a personal opinion, except that it isn’t. The Portland Timbers have the best fans in the league by far and that is a true fact. The Timbers Army is a prestigious group of soccer lovers that have a beer and cheer for the team in green and gold! With chants like “Keep it up, Rose City! Don’t let up, no pity! Keep it up, Rose City!”, “ You can’t stop us, we are the rose city!”, “I wanna destroy Seattle scum!”. The Timbers even have a saying A.C.E.S (Any City Except Seattle), which really portrays the hatred between these two clubs. The energy shouted out by the hundreds of members of the Timber Army is a serious Intimidation factor for the opposing team.
