Ponyboys Speech
Thank you for meeting with me today, Ponyboy. You were once one of Tulsa’s “juvenile delinquents”, yet you became a hometown hero by saving the kids at the church. How has that affected your life? Well, it’s true that I once was a hood, but now I have a family and my brothers also and I am a author. What is your earliest memory of your friends? When we were hanging out when Johnny and Dally were still alive. How has the gang changed since Johnny’s death? We were sad but got use to it, we will miss him. What motivated you to go to college? Getting a better Job and learning more. What happen to the Socs? They went to jail for what they did to us. What happened to the other Greasers? They also have families too.     Johnny is Ponyboy's best friend and the 'pet' of the Greasers. He's 16 years old, and lives with his alcoholic and abusive mother and father. Johnny was jumped and beat up by a Soc wearing heavy rings. Ever since then, Johnny has been paranoid about the Socs and always carries a switchblade. In the story Johnny uses his switchblade to kill a soc member named Bob because they where drowning Ponyboy in a fountain and where getting ready to beat Johnny up. Johnny knew they needed to get out of the city and so they went to Dally to get help. Dally a member of the gang gave them a gun, and told them to go to a church on top of Jay Mountain. At the church all they did was read, “Gone with the Wind”, play poker, and smoke. But at the church Ponyboy realizes that Johnny is different from the gang, just like him because he knows that not anyone in the gang is willing to take time and look at the sunset. Well after five days, Dally goes to the church and takes them to eat. They stopped to eat at Dairy queen and Johnny tells Dally, “We’re goin’ back and turn ourselves in.” Then Dally says,”Johnny, I ain’t mad at you. I just don’t want you to get hurt. You don’t know what a few months in jail can do to you. Johnny, you get hardened in jail. I don’t want that to happen to you. Like it happened to me.” Johnny then said ”Would you rather have me living in hide-outs for the rest of my life, always on the run?” Dally never answered and they went back to the top of Jay Mountain. Once they got there they saw the church on fire and Johnny and Ponyboy got out of the car immediately and…

    Both characters are quiet, scared of the Socs, lack parental guidance due to loss of parents and abusive parents, and both are the most innocent members of the greasers. On the other hand these two characters were different as well. Johnny was also different than Ponyboy by their age, being an only child, one carried a knife, one coming from abusive parents while the other lost his parents. Throughout the story readers are able to step into the world of these young men and see how both of their characters change and grow after time and through the tragic events that occur. The story is centered on the life of Ponyboy Curtis. In short the story is about two groups of people, the Socials (Socs) and the Greasers. It is a story of the poor and the rich against each other. These two gangs are full of people who dislike each other intensely. After Ponyboy is attacked by the Socs in the beginning of the novel, a fight breaks out between the two gangs. Then throughout the story more events unfold forcing Johnny and Ponyboy to go into hiding. After being attacked Johnny protects his friend and stabs a Social (Soc) who is attacking them.     The town dislikes both gangs, but in particular the greasers. The greasers are disliked much more than the socs because they are poor and dirty. Even though the socs are in fact even more ruthless than the greasers, they are "socially acceptable" due to their appearance and money. One night the socs make a surprise attack on Ponyboy and his Johnny, and in self-defense Johnny kills a soc. They run to a close friends (Dallas) house. Dallas gives them some money and tells them to go to an abandoned church out of town. So they spend a couple nights there. One day after going out to buy groceries they return to the church to see that it is on fire. Ponyboy and Johnny went in to save the children from the burning church. Johnny is trapped inside. Dallas goes into save him. Then, the church collapses. They are rushed to the hospital. Ponyboy and Dallas are okay, but Johnny is severely injured. Ponyboy talks with one of the Socs and they both discuss about how they are tired of fighting. Everyone should be equal . Later, the Greasers and Socs get into an enormous brawl , but in the end the Greasers win.…

    Ponyboy Curtis is the youngest character at age fourteen and is also the narrator of the movie. Ponyboy lives with his two brothers, Darry and Sodapop Curtis, after losing both his parents in a terrible car accident. Johnny Cade is a vulnerable sixteen year old that comes from an abusive home. Johnny is always with the Greasers because they are the only reliable family he has. Also one of the main characters is Dallas Winston.
