Polygamous marriages do more harm than good

I completely agree with the above statement for a wide variety of reason. Firstly I would like to bring up the point that in a polygamist relationship the alpha male is the only person who benefits. Men in polygamy tend to take a new wife every 10-20 years as the old ones wear out from child birth. The old women have no role and no value except as household help. Woman are judged by the quantity and quality of their children as well as never getting to run their own home or make their own decisions.
Countries that allow polygamy all suppress human rights. When women in those countries get a voice and have a choice, they don't choose polygamy. Countries that allow polygamy suffer economically, politically, and institutionally. Economies in polygamous countries suffer. The unmarried men don't have any incentive to work hard since they only support themselves and women are generally restricted from working outside the home.

Children almost suffer the most; often suffering from neglect. As polygamy is so negatively thought upon in today’s society polygamists tend to isolate themselves with next to no human contact outside their family, this causes a large range of issues for children. Firstly children tend to me educated by the mothers who have no teaching qualifications or skills, this causes the children to become un-educated and have no qualifications thus giving them no career opportunities. Secondly in large family children are given far more responsibility than is appropriate for there age due to a larger ratio of children to adults. If children chose to leave the polygamist community they will have little understanding of how to behave around others appropriately as well as thinking polygamy is acceptable and normal is today’s culture.

Polygamy is an unstable way of life. As many have to live a polygamist life illegally family’s must live knowing that any day there husband could be taken away from the police
