PURSUIT POLICY 01I, Jeraldine Harris-Rice Police Chief of Scobey Woods, MS do hereby set forth theselaws to be applied and abided by when pursuing any and all vehicles unless otherwisestated in this PURSIT POLICY 01 or it being discussed and approved by Police ChiefJeraldine Harris-Rice. All officers and citizens will be held accountable for their actionswhen citizens unlawfully flee officers and officers unlawfully pursue suspects.This Pursuit Policy 01 was drafted in an effort to be in pursuant to previous policepursuit cases and some general provisions of the Scobey Woods Police Department inan effort to protect the citizens of our county, police officers, and all who enter our townof Scobey Woods, MS.______________________________________________________________________Section I: Officers are to pursue lawbreakers only when there is an apparent danger tothe lives of the general public and there is no viable option to apprehend, identify, orstop the suspect (s) from committing again in any other manner than a high speedchase.
Furthermore, the pursuit has to be called in to the dispatcher describing thesituation and the officer is to follow the suspect (s) vehicle with reasonable caution untila response to pursue or not is given by the dispatcher so as the officer (s) does notcause harm or danger to the general public or property damage. App. 2006),Section II: Officers are not to pursue in areas where there a schools, pedestrians, or ahigh traffic area that is predominately used by the general public.
