DATA & RESULTS
According to the data and information shown on the table above the elements shows chemical periodicity. Its shows also that in every group there are similar characteristics that is visible in every element. The Group IA & IIA Elements shows the same characteristics in physical state, color, and appearance but the solubility has some variations. In Group IVA only the physical state are the same while the color and appearance have variations. In Group IIA Metal Oxides shows also similar characteristics in physical state, reaction to blue litmus paper and most especially in red litmus paper that shows a reaction.

MATERIALS / REAGENTS & EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE

For the Group IA & IIA Elements, each small amount samples of Li2CO3, Na2CO3, K2CO3, MgCO3, CaCO3 and BaCO3 was place in the different test tubes. After placing them in the test tubes, we identified the physical state, color, and appearance of each. Then we test the solubility of each sample by using a 10mL of water.

For the Group IVA Elements, each small amount samples of C, Sn, Si,

The purpose of the coordination complex lab is to determine the absorbance spectra of complexes based on their color. Every complex has its own color which results from the wavelengths of white light it reflects. The complexes will be compared by the color each reflects and by the energy of the waves each absorbs. The purity of the synthesized complex will also be found.…

As you have seen in the modules, each atom has a unique arrangement of electrons and scientists take advantage of this concept to identify materials based on the colors that are emitted. This can be done using scientific instruments called spectroscopes by comparing samples of pure elements with unknown substances. In this lab you will be observing the colors of light emitted when samples of known metallic ions are exposed to flame, thus absorbing energy, and carefully observing the color change in the flame. You will also have an unknown sample that is one of the “knowns”. The unknown can be identified by comparison to…

In this lab we evaluate the solubility of compounds of iron, copper, zinc, and mercury in both water and acid. Coming into the lab we know that iron, copper, and zinc are all found in the the same row of the periodic table, while zinc and mercury are found in the same column. The transition metals are found in groups 3 to 12 and periods 4 to 6. Rows are known as periods and columns are known as groups. They share characteristics, such as being good conductors of electricity, and having a shiny appearance. This experiment will further our knowledge of the organization of the periodic table and the patterns found within in it, in reference to chemical similarities between elements. This experiment is important because it puts us in the position of discovering similarities between this group of elements.…

    Chemical Periodicity

The experiment chemical periodicity shows the properties and reactions belonging to group IA, IIA, and IVA. Proper procedures and observations were done to determine the solubility, physical state, color, and appearance of the compounds namely Li2CO3, Na2CO3, K2CO3, CaCO3, and BaCO3. The results shows that Li2CO3, Na2CO3, K2CO3 were soluble in water, while MgCO3, CaCO3,and BaCO3 were not soluble. All of these compounds were color white, they are in solid form, and their appearance were powder like. The sample from Group IVA Elements ( C, Sn, Si, and Pb) were also in solid form. The color and appearance of Carbon(C) are black, dull and rocklike, tin(Sn) was silver and shiny, silicon(Si) was white and powdery, lead(Pb) was gray and dull and powder like. For the Group IIA Metal Oxides, MgO and CaO were tested of their solubility and reaction to Litmus paper. Both of the compounds were soluble in water and remained blue in reaction to blue litmus paper. The compounds turned to blue in reaction to red litmus paper. This means that the compounds are bases.…
