Poetic Devices In Christmas By Jean Reidy
All people in their lives went through the celebration of the Christmas. And today I want to talk about a poem that was written by Jean Reidy "Christmas". Just from the poem's name we can get the information, that the poem itself will talk about the Christmas. This poem contains many poetic devices, but I will talk about just three of them. They are personification, repetition and hyperbole.

First I will talk about personification. First personification is on the line 8. This line says "Santa dance in your head". In reality Santa Clause can not dance in my head, it is just impossible. And we can see that the person in the poem wants to get the presents from the Santa Clause faster. That is why he is thinking about him, and we can see this

“Our Christmas tree was never even an inch under eight feet, and it took the whole family hours to decorate it. Each year one of us was honored by being allowed to place the angel at the top of the tree, while Father help us up in his strong arms.” (Pelzer 22). This passage is a simile because this is how we are in Christmas, our tree would be long and it takes us a whole hour to decorate it. We are allowed to place the star on top of the tree, and that is what’s amazing about it. This brought my attention and interested me because it showed how good the mother was to her children and hoe kind she treated them, because the name of the chapter called Good Times. It also shows that the kid remember how good she was and then how she turned…

The story “A Christmas Carol” is Dickens way of showing the divide between the rich and poor of London and the consequences it has on the people. By 1776 over 16,000 individual men, women and children were housed in one of the eighty workhouses in metropolitan London; between 1 per cent and 2 per cent of the population of London. Workhouses, institutions in which the poor were housed, fed and set to work, had by this time become the most common form of relief available to Londoners . Ebenezer Scrooge is a wealthy old man who has no Christmas spirit in him. He is visited by his dead business partner, Jacob Marley who tell him because of his way of life on earth has doomed him to roam the earth in chains forever, he tells Scrooge that if he does…

“Carol of the Bells” by Peter J. Wilhousky has the theme of Christmas that any carol would have. In a carol, the base structure of it is based on the meaning of Christmas and the joy it brings to people. Although “Carol of the Bells” is no different than any other song native to Christmas, the song tells us to listen to the bells that mark that Christmas is here; to tell us to forget our cares and worries. The carol also encourages people, “One seems to hear, Words of good cheer, From everywhere, Filling the air.” “Carol of the Bells” may be a song that has the basic theme of Christmas but it has a depth that is in the carol giving a cheery description of Christmas.…

I attended the play A Christmas Carol Clarence Brown Theater at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville on Saturday December 5, 2015. This play was a very well put on play. It was about this mean miserable old man named Ebenezer Scrooge that hates Christmas. One night Scrooge was approached by a ghost, and he was told that he would be visited by three different ghost in the next three nights. Then all of a sudden Scrooge fell into a deep sleep. First the ghost of Christmas past visits him, and takes him to revisit his childhood days. Then the next night the ghost of Christmas present visits. This ghost takes him to the Crachit family Christmas, and the son really touched Mr. Scrooge’s heart.…

I chose “Twas the Night Before Christmas”, by Clement Clarke Moore to do my stylistic impression on because it is very important to me and it has a nice rhythm, meter, and rhyme. Every Christmas eve, my dad has read this poem/story to me, so this poem has a personal significance. Whenever I hear this poem, I become very happy, because this poem triggers joyus Christmas memories filled with family and good times. I also like the rhyming of this, because it gives the story an upbeat, jolly tone. It has a nice meter, however the meter is irregular. The meter also adds a very upbeat and joyous feel to this poem. The meter is very free spirited. It isn’t very strict, which allows for more creativity when constructing a line. The rhyme pattern…

Very often when a popular novel published it is turned into a movie a little later. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is a very popular original story about a man named Scrooge who is flooded with greed. It’s around Christmas time and Scrooge is told by the spirit of his old partner, Jacob Marley, that he will be visited by three ghosts. These ghosts are the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. They all show him different events of his life to try and change him, some good and some not so great. But, in the end, they were successful; Scrooge had changed into a kind and generous old man. Many movies were made of this book and, since this was a classic, all the filmmakers had to have the major details Dickens wrote to make it as special as the vintage book itself. After reading Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol, I think that the filmmakers did stay true to Dickens’ words.…

Morality plays were most popular during the Medieval and Tudor eras. A morality play is a performance where the protagonist is faced with personifications of moral attributes that try to convince the protagonist to choose a life of good, rather than the evil path they were heading towards. The story A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is a morality play in the form of a novella. The author uses allegorical characters and a relatable hero to promote a Christian moral.…

The title of the story under analysis is short but excites many associations. The word ‘Christmas’ always has positive connotations. The text can be connected with a bright, kind and even funny holiday. But in fact this story is rather shrewd. The title produces the exciting effect. It also presents a strong position. The theme of getting back for Christmas is the domineering one in this story from the beginning of it till the very end. The author lays a particular stress upon the title of the story.…
