Dial ”M” for Monkey
It was a dark and stormy night at Manchester. The rain was dripping as if it were the drools out of a very lazy and sleepy dog. The thunder, screeching through the skies as if Zeus(god of thunder) was arrogant on someone. But the Clarks house, so warm and cozy. Everybody enjoyed doing chores and were very buoyant, not until a transformative object entered their lives and made them their lives filled with despair, and tragedy ,The Monkey’s Paw.
Few weeks ago, before the blustery and mournful day, The Clarks, were going to the beach which was 3 miles away. They were enjoying at the beach, kiteboarding on the breezy wind, and bone chilling water. Their only son, Alex went to see if he had won the lottery ticket. He rushed

In his efforts to reach quickly, he got hit by a bike and a crowd surrounded him trying to help .While he was trying to recover from the shock, he saw the police arrest his son for smoking at such a young age. After few months, Mr.Clark recovered and went to see his son in jail. The policeman asked him to appear in court the very next day for his son’s trial. In grief and anger, he went to the person who had picked the monkey’s paw and argued and threatened to kill him. Then he went home taking the monkey paw and wished for that friend to be dead. Exactly 20 mins after the wish, there was a breaking news on TV, that “All the money from the ’Western Union Bank’ has been robbed. The bank has refused to take any responsibility for the loss of their people’s money.” 5 minutes after that there is an explosion in the colony and his wife is killed in the explosion and almost everyone in the neighbourhood is injured. Then Mr.Clark steps out to see what happened and sees his friend neighbor's body bleeding like the water in a river. That was the stormy night when Mr.Clark in despair, crying his heart out to the world admitting his terrible mistakes of wishing on the monkey’s paw, makes his last wish of death. Mr. White saw a white door in front of him, he stood up and walked through that door and was amazed to see what was behind, his

Isabelle could have sworn that the man was drooling over her. She chuckled to herself, knowing that she had picked the perfect weakling to complete her plan. All of the sudden she stopped walking, for she felt something wet rolling down her leg. Isabelle slowly turned around to face whoever had the nerve to do this to her. Just as Isabelle had suspected, an innocent puppy had come over and licked her leg. Isabelle looked down at it, stared, and then screamed! “Whos is this?” Isabelle was stewing! Her hands were shaking all the way down to the tips of her black, matte, flawless fingernails. She bent down picked up the puppy, and yelled once more. “Whoever this beast belongs to please claim it now, or youĺl never see it again!” By now, Isabelle knew that she had everyone's attention, yet still, nobody said a word. For the last time, Isabelle shouted to the crowd as they stared at her in horror. “Fine then, say goodbye to the mangy mutt!” Everybody thought that Isabelle was going to kill the puppy, but to their surprise, she simply walked away with it. Nobody knew what she planned to do with it, but nobody had the nerve say anything. For the first time in a century, the streets of New York were completely silent, that was, until the owner of the puppy walked into the streets saying “Hey, has anyone seen my…

“Be careful what you wish for”, a common phrase I am sure many people have heard throughout their lives. W.W. Jacob’s takes this phrase and writes his short story The Monkeys Paw around this phrase. We all wish for something extraordinary out of life, Hell, even I have my occasional “God, I wish…” ; but as we all know “ask and thee shall receive” is easier said then done. Jacobs interpetation of wishing is similar to alchemy in which the first law known as the law of equivalent exchange, which states “Human kind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain something of equal value must be lost.” This is the main premise of the story in which everything that is wished comes with a horrible cost.…

There are no stars, no moon just an empty dark sky, not even the slightest detail. Only dots and dashes representing the warm late summer’s rain. Still crashing. Still hammering. A bolt of lightning illuminates the dull room through one small window, eight foot above wooden shelves lining the length of the far grey wall. Empty. Cobwebs attached to just about every corner. A small spider waits patiently as an oblivious small moth flies into his trap. Cornered. Trapped. I should help the poor creature. But then again no. Why should I get involved with the circle of life. Why should I be the one to play god to those below me, those whom lack intellect but yet know what is going on. It is right in front of your eyes. Can’t you see the ways of the spider, I plead into the emptiness, my voice roughly echoing off the walls of this secluded space. He’s cunning, crafty, intimidating, an opportunist… he is a backstabber, I whisper, aggravated knowing that I can’t change the future…the moment is coming close. I push myself up off a stack of old newspapers and run my trotters across the rugged walls. I may not talk much, and I may come across as a loner towards the other pigs, but I am smarter than I may seem. I know all the plans of Napoleon who will show his true colours tomorrow night. I know what he has in store for Snowball. I know what has happened to the nine new born puppies Napoleon snatched off Jessie and Bluebell, and I can tell… I can just tell that something bad is going to happen. I think hugging myself in fear. As I walk up to the web were the gleeful spider wraps up his dinner, I sit...watching…pondering…thinking... fearing for the safety of my comrades. What will happen next? How will it happen? Why will it happen? I just. Don’t. Know.…
