Poem By Jenny Rogers
Now, they sit stiff at their desks, trying hard not to fall into the looseness of imagination, picking at the vinyl floor with the toe of their shoes, their papers lazily spilling over one another, and their deadlines way past.
They hardly talk, because they don't really want to, and no one really wants to talk to them anyhow.
And when they do talk, they guard their words, because those words are theirs alone. A secret.
Only when they are with each other do they let those words out, only when they are with each other do they let the black take them over and twist them up into another universe.
And only when they are with each other do they smile. Because it is only when they are with each other that they want to be.
She admires him inside

And he smiles at her, the beautiful girl who also doesn't have a name, who also stands with her back to the sun. Who picks at the vinyl floor with her shoe.
He holds on to the image of this girl desperately, as a drowning man grabs at the top of the sea.
“I love you,” he says in a final way. He has no idea when he will be able to say this again. Because if this world drops out before their eyes, they will be stuck with papers and mundane activities and never saying “I love you” again.
And she also realizes this, so she reaches up and she traces his face mindlessly with her hands. And with diamond tears grasping at her lashes, she kisses him. And the new world swirls around them in traces of maroon and violet.
Callow and desperate, they cling to one another. He is warm and she is cold so she melts into him.
“Run this way,” she tells him in a loud whisper, “We cannot have the others see us, for they will believe that we are

They walk along the streets here for a while.
It is wonderful.
She thrills in the beautiful flowers that are everywhere, because here, there is no winter. Here is eternal summer and eternal grace.
“Watch as the others stare at us,” he tells her with a laugh, “they have no idea. It’s really quite tragic that we are the only two to see this marvelous world.”
She nods her head in agreement, she thinks that everyone deserves to see what they see.
They roam for a long while, and he feels that he could stay here forever. Just him and her, and the sun and the birds.
But then she feels it, again, oh no, she feels it again. The sinking warped feeling, again. It is getting harder to focus, again. She looks at him with want and distrust, again.
And she knew it, she knew it was coming.
They have been here for only 5 minutes, and the sky has already ripped in two, and the loud shrieking red and blue lights have come to them.
And it is over.
And they are back to past due dates and staring out the window.
And they wish for the world to come again, but it never does.
And that is

    Minerva Jones Poem

In the epitaph "Minerva Jones" by Edgar Lee Masters I learned that she was looked at as a person with a "heavy body, cock-eye, and rolling walk" and that she was the village poetess. The people this poetess speaks about are as she refers to as "Yahoos of the street" these were the people who would hoot and jeer at her as she walked by because of her looks. She also says that someone named Butch Weldy captured her after a brutal hunt and that she "sank into death, growing numb from the feet up" she is now pregnant by Butch. This lets us know how the poet's view on small-town America because not only does that seem bad that in the epitaph the girl is "captured" she is thirsty for love and hungry for life which means she isn't loved nor does she…

In first stanza Dickson defines hope by comparing it to a bird, which is metaphor- a figure of speech in which an expression is used to refer to something that it does not literally denote in order to suggest a similarity. The poem examines the abstract idea of hope in the free spirit of a bird. Hope is an animate thing, it is inanimate, but giving hope feathers she begins to create an image hope in our minds. Feathers represent hope because feathers enable you to fly and offer the image of flying away to a new hope, a new beginning. Broken feather of a person breaks the hope of the person. Their wings have been broken and they no longer have the power to hope... “That perches in the soul” in these lines Dickinson continues to use the imagery (the ability to form mental images of things or events) of a bird to describe hope. Hope doesn’t need spoken words. Hope is always there. Hope, she is implying, perches or roosts in our soul. The soul is the home for hope. It can also be seen as a metaphor. Hope rests in our soul the way a bird rests on its perch. Birds never stop singing their song of hope.…

The speaker says that, wandering like a cloud floating above hills and valleys, he encountered a field of daffodils beside a lake. The dancing, fluttering flowers stretched endlessly along the shore, and though the waves of the lake danced beside the flowers, the daffodils outdid the water in glee. The speaker says that a poet could not help but be happy in such a joyful company of flowers. He says that he stared and stared, but did not realize what wealth the scene would bring him. For now, whenever he feels “vacant” or “pensive,” the memory flashes upon “that inward eye / That is the bliss of solitude,” and his heart fills with pleasure, “and dances with the daffodils.”…
