Pobreng Pinoy
POBRENG PINOY

Poverty is a very serious problem here in our country. And every year, it worsens. Sad but true, many of us don't even get bothered because we were not paying so much attention to it. Not until when GMA's Imbestigador aired “Pobreng Pinoy” on Philippine television which gives an impact to everybody who watch it. It became an eye opener, especially to those who are insensitive of what is really going on in our society today. It was very inspiring and alarming at the same time as it reveals the real situations happening in the lives of poor Filipinos. Pobreng Pinoy featured here some of the families living in the urban areas who built their houses in dangerous places like in trees, creeks, empty truck containers and old railways using junk materials such as plywoods, styrofoams, and cartons. While in urban areas, they featured some people who eat exotic foods that are present in their community like poisonous root crops, worms, and even farm rats. There were also some people who sell their blood and some of their body parts like eyes, teeth and skin in exchange of money. And lastly, the most shocking and heart melting was the story of a 75 year old man who sell his own flesh for less than fifty pesos to buy his own food. It is sad and disappointing to see that there are still Filipinos who are experiencing and suffering from poverty while others are enjoying a wealthy life. A wealthy life these people are striving for. I know the feeling hunger and thirst. It is hard and painful. That is why I cannot blame them on doing such illegal acts because sometimes it is the only way for them to survive and earn a living. They have to sacrifice for their own good and for the sake of the people they love providing whatever they need. Food, shelter, education and health. These are the basic needs of people to live by. But not all of us are given the chance to acquire all these things together that is why we find ways to have it which involves money. No

I disagree with Aristotle and this form of logic; therefore, money is vital for survival at the present time. Money is needed for food, housing, transportation, and these things are needed for survival. According to Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, there are five phases that you need to accomplish to become a self-actualized person. They are physiological needs, which are food and water, lodging and air. The second phase is security needs, and they need to feel safe and secure, which could be living in a good neighborhood. The third phase is social needs, which are love and belonging, for example family. The fourth phase is esteem needs, which are self-esteem and accomplishments. The last phase is self-actualizing needs, and few people reach this stage. Self-actualizing people are concerned with personal development, and not concerned with what others think, nevertheless fulfilling their full potential. An example is Abraham Lincoln and John F.…

I wonder how you would react living with people who only had one good set of clothes that they wear with pride to church on Sundays? The rest of the week they wear a t-shirt with more holes than cloth and walk barefoot - not as a fashion statement - that's just all they have. What about nutrition itself? The primary cause of malnutrition is related to the poor distribution of food which certainly manifests itself in the widespread poverty and high unemployment in the Philippines.
