Varsha JagarlapudiPersonal Navigation Devices
NETW 583
10/4/2014Why have Personal Navigation Devices become popular? What technologies are required to facilitate the success of PNDs? PND’s have become very popular in both handheld and vehicle models. These personal devices allow the users to not only determine where they need to go but also where they are and most have a memory which allows the user to save locations to their favorites. If they are connected to the internet they can be updated regularly with new locations to search for within their memory like restaurant’s, gas stations, and various other stores and community locations. PND’s work using GPS navigation satellites to gain their respective GSP coordinates. With these coordinates the internal system can place them on the map that have been installed within the PND and shows the user where they are in relation to other locations and can even give the best path from point A to point B. CITATION htt27 \l 1033 (htt27)Who are some of the leaders in PNDs? What are the likely factors that will contribute to winning in this marketplace? Among the top PND’s are Garmin, Tom Tom, Magellan, and Motorola. The PND that I have had personal experience with would be the Garmin. Garmin produces rugged hand held models that are perfect for camping, hunting and hiking. They normally come equipped with forest roads and other off the beaten track maps that the vehicle models do not contain. To win in this market the PND manufacturers need to be able to give simple but robust features along with a reasonable price structure that will enable the average user to be able to afford them. CITATION htt28 \l 1033 (htt28)
What will be a likely future for PNDs?
There are 114 million devices worldwide and that number is only expected to grow more. The immediate threat to this market is factory-placed navigation systems incorporated with new vehicles. Individuals are also using their mobiles as a PND. Mobile towers can

In the Week 4, a domain model was created for Company Beta. When the domain model was created, it was thought to cover all the security concerns associated with the information contained on the network. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Recently, there has been some compromising activity to allow sensitive information to possibly get into the wrong hands. To help aid in eliminating the possibility of this occurring again, the entire domain model will be re-evaluated. This will provide security enhancements that are not present in the current domain model. In order to re-evaluate the current domain model, there are several aspects that we will have to discuss. These aspects include the type of domain model used for current domain model, the affects subnets may or may not have, how a new domain model can provide better security, how to improve the domain name system, the Internet domain name and its effect on the DNS name-resolution process, and can ISDN be improved. In addition, it will also be noted how domain controllers can be utilized to provide the company with adequate expansion in the future due to user population increase.…

Google’s Motivation to bid into the wireless marketplace through the use of the 700MHz Spectrum Auction was the opportunity to develop possibly a 50 state network “The FCC is auctioning 1,099 wireless licenses in the 700 MHz band, but the most attractive spectrum for many bidders is the “C-block” of 12 regional licenses that may be combined to create a 50-state network.” (Reiter, 2008) This new product development would allow Google to become a cellular network operator. This market includes firms such as AT&T and Verizon, Google would not only compete with these firms but also would have had the opportunity to network with other entities to develop some innovative new products.…

Ryan and Aaron are an amazing example of modern entrepreneurs. They grew their business from the ground up and did so with little capital. One key lesson apparent from the video is that they had an innovative product that there was a market need for. You might imagine that a librarian would be able to organize almost anything. Prior to registering for POS 543 I held a fairly simple view of organization which focused on arranging and categorizing things. Working in academic libraries for almost 30 years, both as a student and professionally trained me to look for similarities in all aspects of my work. We catalog and shelve books on the same subjects together; services that are complementary are delivered by the same department; and individuals working to achieve a similar goal, such as reference assistance, are employed in the same unit. The academic library is also an organization within a larger organization. I found an early description by Scott and Davis matched my vision of an organization perfectly, “a social structure created by individuals to support the collaborative pursuit of specified goals” (2007, p. 11).…

Geolocation has truly made an impact on the world. In the past, individuals used to print out their directions and used paper to tell them where to go. The only problem with this is that you could potentially lose the paper or if you wanted to do add a route onto it, there was no possible way because you wouldn’t have access to the Internet. Now with the onslaught of Smartphones, tablets, etc. you can plug in your information and your current location is already saved on the server. You are able to find your current location on your mobile device by the GPS chip that is installed on them. The GPS chip is where all of the data is stored, sent, and received. Smartphones, tablet, and Internet devices all should have GPS chips within their systems. The iPhone and “The iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G models do have built-in GPS chips that receive signals from the global GPS satellite system to determine your location - as closely as three meters, depending the number of satellite signals the chip is receiving. GPS in the iPad 2 is classed as assisted GPS, also known as AGPS, which enhances the performance of standard GPS in devices connected to Wi-Fi or the cellular network. The iPad 2 W-Fi + 3G may be used for the full range of apps that require detailed location information wherever you may be…
