Plavix is the generic name for clopidogrel bisulfate, an anti- platelet. Plavix is a blood thinner that helps prevent a stroke, heart attack, and other heart problems. A prescription is needed, side effects include; nosebleeds, bloody stool, severe stomach pain, easy to bruise, and problems with vision or speech. This prescription reduces the risk of the patient getting a blood clot. Plavix helps prevent platelets from sticking together, forming a clot that could block an artery. Since they will be laying in the bed without much movement they are at a higher risk for blood clots, even if they are not prone to getting them.
