    Metal Fabrication

    • 1131 Words

Assembling (joining of the pieces) is done by welding, binding with adhesives, riveting, threaded fasteners, or even yet more bending in the form of a crimped seam. Structural steel and sheet metal are the usual starting materials for fabrication, along with the welding wire, flux, and fasteners that will join the cut pieces. As with other manufacturing processes, both human labour and automation are commonly used. The product resulting from fabrication may be called a fabrication. Shops that specialize in this type of metal work are called fab shops. The end products of other common types of metalworking, such as machining, metal stamping, forging, and casting, may be similar in shape and function, but those processes are not classified as fabrication.…

    Teflon

There are many uses of Teflon but the most widely used application is in cookware. PFOA is the main ingredient used in the production of Teflon, and there is a claim that there is a trace amount of PFOA left in the cookware after the manufacturing process is completed. And it is also claimed that this PFOA could be harmful to people using the cookware. Research conducted by the US food and drug administration revealed that there is a very small amount of PFOA found in cookware made by DuPont. DuPont’s defense was that the testing methods used in that study were extreme, and do not represent how the cookware would be used in regular kitchens. Moreover, the small amount found does not represent any harm; it is very small and can’t be transferred to food. The United States Environment Protection Agency (EPA) is currently studying the effect of PFOA on health issues. However EPA clearly states that there is no indication that the PFOA in blood is coming through the use of Teflon coated cookware. The EPA also indicates that the public should not be concerned at this time, using Teflon cookware is still considered safe. EPA is working on reducing PFOA in the environment; all the manufacturers that release PFOA will reduce their emission by 95% in 2010, and they will also work on eliminating it completely by 2015. (Elis; U.S. Environmental Protection Agency)…

When I came upon the topic of Capital Punishment in the Ethics course, I began researching and found the video above against it. Before doing so I once believed that criminals of horrific crimes should be punished by death. My opinion has changed because I now view capital punishment as neglecting peace in the world. It diminishes us as a society and we should look another alternative, life in jail for these criminals. I am now convinced that best way for us to maintain a peaceful world is not to be hypocritical in using capital punishment.…
