Plantar Warts Research Paper
Warts are the disease caused by Human papilloma virus. It is the disease in which skin and mucosal proliferations occurs. There are many various types of warts, which occur at different places on the body and hence are named accordingly if for example, it is present on soles of feet it is referred as plantar warts and if it occurs around fingernails it is called periungual warts.1 The selection of the treatment option depends on various factors such as age of the patient, types of the wart treating, desire of therapy, infection site, number of warts and size of the wart.2 Certain immune-modulating agents have been used to treat warts. One such agent that have been tried to treat warts in adults and in children was cimetidine.3 Cimetidine is a H2 receptor blocker, which blocks the histamine action and inhibits gastric acid secretion. It is used for duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Moreover, cimetidine is also used to treat candidiasis, periodic fever and herpes zoster due to its immune-modulatory effect1. …show more content…
However, the use of cimetidine in treatment of wart is still questionable because some preliminary studies has shown that it is effective in wart treatment due to ability to suppress T-cell function but recently the studies have shown some different results then
