Maya's poem “Life Doesn't Frighten Me” speaks out about being afraid of what life throws at you. Angelou doesn't want to be scared of the journey that is life. Now, when your life is increasingly getting shorter as the days go by, would you want people to pity your last breath or celebrate it? Celebrating it might be the way to go with Angelou, because she wants to be thankful for the last gulp of oxygen her lungs get. Most people who bother with feeling bad for other people every second of the day probably tend to have lower self-asteem. Now, I'm not saying go out and don't worry about your surroundings and never feel sorry or care for someone or something that needs to be lifted.
