PITCH SPEECH AND OUTLINE ASSIGNMENT
The purpose of the Pitch outline and speech is to fully display your audience adaptation and persuasive speaking skills through the process of pitching a project idea and plan to effect a change to an issue, problem, or part of the status quo. This includes gathering appropriate information and persuasive reasons to support a 6-9 minute speech about the topic, project and target audience of your choice. The assignment requirements are as follows:
1. Your topic, project, and target audience should be approved by your instructor.
2. You must cite (use as a reference) at least 4 (FOUR) different sources of evidence. Of your 4 sources, at least 2 (TWO) must be dated within the last year (i.e., 2011-2012).

D. Preview of Main Points (one sentence) Today I’m going to talk about how textbook prices are just simply too high, why textbooks aren’t free and my plan for free textbooks.

II. Main Point – Significance - Summary Statement (one sentence) Textbook prices are just simply too high.
A. Description of the current situation and harms being done (one sentence) The prices of textbooks continue to rise and they shouldn’t be rising.

B. Explain why this is important – who is affected, overall impact (one sentence) Students/Parents are paying a lot more than they should be paying.

Main Point – Solvency (Plan) - Summary Statement (one sentence) Free textbook rental database in the library and free textbooks online.
A. Describe the solution you propose – your plan (one sentence) An entire textbook database in the library with every single textbook being held there along with free textbooks online for people to read.
1. Supporting Statements or Evidence- If one is borrowing a textbook from the library; they fill out a rental pass where if they don’t bring it back they have to pay for it.
2. Supporting Statements or Evidence- An online database of open source textbooks will be created online, with a password entry for the University of Delaware so only Delaware students can use it.
B. Describe the results of your plan (one sentence) An easy and reliable way to get your textbooks without any worries.
1. Supporting Statements or Evidence- No more spending money on a credit card to order your books.
2. Supporting Statements or Evidence- As long as you take care of your books and bring them back when they are due, then this plan is a great success.
