Symptoms of this infection are usually mild.

Treatments:
E. vermicularis can be best treated by an anthelmintic drug called mebendazole. Albendazole, pyrantel pamoate, and levamisole may also be used to treat pinworms. A longer course of treatment would be the use of piperazine. First dosage of medication is to be taken the day it is administered and the second to be taken two weeks after. This two-week time span is to help kill any newly-acquired pinworms. There is NOT a vaccine obtainable for pinworms.

Prevention:
Pin worms can be prevented best by washing hands, keeping nails short, and sanitizing hands with soap and water frequently. To prevent re-infection, clothing, bedding, towels, and toys, should soaked in hot water. Dusty areas, floors, and furniture should be vacuumed well and any other contaminated surfaces should be sanitized. Lesions occur as a result of the skin penetration of the third stage larvae of Uncinaria stenocephala and Ancylostoma spp. The larvae are located in the soil that the animals contact. Lesions are more often associated with Uncinaria stenocephala infestation. Uncinaria stenocephala rarely completes its life cycle by skin penetration, however, Ancylostoma spp can. Infections caused by protozoa are contagious. Those protozoa that have inhabited the human intestine can be transmitted from one human to the other via the fecal-oral route, such as through sharing food the infected person has touched and through direct person to person contact. Protozoa living in the blood or tissue can be transmitted through a third source such as a mosquito. Infections are easily transmitted and persons carrying this parasite should avoid interactions with others, especially those with compromised and weakened immune systems.…

The most common way this disease is transmitted from one animal to the next is through mosquitoes. A mosquito carrying infective heartworm larvae bites a dog and transmits the infection to them. The larvae grow, develop, and migrate in the body over a period of 6 to 7 months, in which time they become sexually mature male and female worms. this is the prepatent period. The worms then reside in the heart, lungs, and associated blood vessels. The worms begin to mate and release microfilaria into the blood stream. When a mosquito bites an infected dog it takes in some of the microfilaria in the blood. After 10 to 30 days there is larvae in the mosquito's salivary gland which can then be passed on to the next dog the mosquito bites.…

The fungus takes advantage of skin belonging to those with reduced immune capacity; keep in mind that skin must be abraded to become infected.² A carrier of ringworm is one that is infected but not showing lesions or one that is simply carrying the fungus on its fur in the same way an inanimate object might have fungal spores on its surface. Both types of "carriers" must be identified as they are both capable of spreading the infection.² Most dermatophytes are readily transmitted to other susceptible host by contact and contamination of the environment.⁴ Fluorescence can appear on the fur within 7 days of exposure and clinical signs within 2 to 4 weeks.⁴ In humans, the incubation period is 1 to 2 weeks.⁴ Under most circumstances, dermatophytes grow only in keratinized tissue, and advancing infection stops on reaching living cells or inflamed tissue.³ Transmission between host usually occurs by direct contact with a symptomatic or asymptomatic host, or direct or airborne contact with its hairs or skin scales.…

Parasitism is a symbiotic relationship in which one organism, the parasite, benefits at the expense of the other, the host. Soil-transmitted helminthiasis is a human infection of the intestinal tract caused by different species of parasitic worms acquired through contact with contaminated soil (Bethony et al. 2006). Light helminth infections are well endured by human hosts and usually have no symptoms, but some serious cases cause morbidity and mortality (CDC, 2013; Parasitology, 2010). These parasitic worms compromise a person’s nourishment, usually among children, resulting to stunted growth and impaired cognitive development (WHO, 2017; Bethony et al. 2006). Severe infections can cause health problems ranging from abdominal pain, malaise and diarrhea to granuloma, rectal prolapse and loss of blood and protein (Magalhães et al. 2015; CDC, 2013); while rare cases of helminths invading other organs cause eosinophilia and pneumonia (Shekhawat and Vijayvergia, 2011).…

Parasitic infections are considered to be a public health problem of global importance by the World Health Organization. The Philippine government has been creating projects to help eradicate this public health problem in the country and although the percentage of infected people has decreased, this has not been fully successful just yet. Successful eradication of parasites would involve educating the people, proper sanitation, and the compliance of the public to the guidelines provided by the government and health organizations. This is not an easy matter for these require much time and money and people from rural areas have been used to their way of life and some do not see how the parasites may cause harm and affect one’s performance.…
