July 21, 2017
Dear Program Director,
It is my pleasure to write in support of the application of Ms. Sharene Zayed for your Physician Assistant Program. I attended the LSU New Orleans Physician Assistant Program and am now practicing in palliative medicine at Ochsner Medical Center. I worked closely with Ms. Zayed when she shadowed me at the hospital. I will focus on my experiences with Ms. Zayed which demonstrates the qualities necessary for your program: strong knowledge base, motivation, leadership, professionalism, and compassion. Once a physician assistant gains acceptance into a residency program they embark on another six to twenty-four month journey pending on the program and chosen specialty. However, the length of most of these programs is around 12 months. The majority of residency programs provide a broad variety of didactic and clinical education. This is a key factor for those that choose the residency route in continuing education as a PA, as opposed to just attending medical conferences and other meetings that most physician assistants do once they are employed (Polansky, Garver, Wilson, Pugh, & Hilton, 2012). According to Ballweg et al., (2013), “residents estimated their total number of hours of didactic education associated with the residency program they attended to be 350.4 hours for…

This organization holds annual conferences across the country for physician assistants (this year the annual conference will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada).3 I believe it would be beneficial for me to join this organization when I am practicing as a physician assistant because I will be able to connect with many physician assistants from across the country as well as learn about issues in my field and how to improve the quality of care given. AAPA uses email to convey information on…

Whether they are at their best or worst health of their life. You must always have a positive attitude and promote the best outcomes for the people/patients that are in your care. Those are attributes that can not be taught, that has to live inside of you.…
