Physical Therapy Personal Statement

I became interested in Kinesiology because I wanted to study the art and science of human anatomy and movement. I wanted to be able to understand and master my body’s physiological responses to exercise. I wanted to be knowledgeable in promoting a healthy and fit lifestyle. I found that I could apply all that I have mastered from a Kinesiology degree by pursuing a career in physical therapy. Carl, an elderly man that I worked with while volunteering at Fireside Convalescent Home helped me come to my decision. Carl had been in a wheel chair for 15 years and had been seeing a physical therapist for the past 12. When I first began observing Carl’s physical therapist, I realized that he was happiest while working with them through treatment. I could see that doing the exercises and walking around with the help of his p.t made him feel needed, like he had a purpose for his life again. After his sessions, Carl would be caught singing old blues tunes, filled with so much happiness. That joy that Carl’s physical therapist brought to his life is the same joy that I would like to bring to others.
It also calls for a lot of time spent with patients which will lead to a great relationship with them. I enjoy making relationships with people because I believe it’s very important to make strong connections in life. I want to be the physical therapist that people refer their family members and friends to because I have great service, a caring heart, and I enjoy teaching them how to live a healthy life style. I know physical therapy will be a challenging, time commitment but it is something that I want for
