Physical Therapy Observation Report
Director and owner of the two Wake County locations of Access Physical Therapy & Wellness, Martha Harris, PT, DPT, GCS, CERT. DN, attended a North Carolina Board of Physical Therapy Examiners approved continuing education course on March 3 about understanding and treating infants with plagiocephaly.
The course covered the differences between a normal and abnormal skull shape, as well as the severity levels for the three types of flat head syndrome: plagiocephaly, brachycephaly and scaphocephaly. The course also addressed the functional implications of abnormal head shape including malocclusion of the jaw, compression of the base of the skull, developmental delay and difficulty wearing safety gear (helmets, goggles, glasses).
