Physical Therapy Assistant Personal Statement

In my life, I have been a patient too many times to say I am well familiar with different roles in health care. When I was fourteen I was diagnosed with a type of cancer called Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and after six months of treatment I decided I wanted to help others like the many clinicians that helped me. After I graduated high school I got a job at an outpatient physical therapy clinic and there my true passion began. This inspired me to apply and eventually get accepted into the Physical Therapist Assistant program at Gateway Community College. The Physical Therapist Assistant program at Gateway will help me reach my goal of becoming a Physical Therapist Assistant by developing my character professionally, giving me the knowledge to help patients, and pass my board to receive my license as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
The program is oriented to developing the students professionally throughout the course work. To illustrate, classes like Communication in Physical Therapist Assisting are teaching me professional behaviors, attitudes, and thinking when working with patients. In addition, to shaping students professionally the program also gives a wide scope of information needed when working in a physical therapy setting. I continue to use my desire to help others to keep me motivated through the program until I reach my end professional goal of becoming a Physical Therapist Assistant. I am grateful to receive the opportunity to be accepted into a program that develops students professionally, gives them the knowledge to help others, and helps me reach my goal of becoming a well-educated, license Physical Therapist Assistant.
