I came to the United States when I was 13 years old. I did numerous job shadows on a different medical career from school. Upon coming to America my grandma has a cardiac arrest and she was sent to Rehabilitation Center. Visiting my grandmother, a fascinating thing I saw was Occupational therapist assisting my grandma to improve the ways that support her to progress the skill that will lead to achieving success in daily living, such as, motor, social, personal, academic and vocational. My grandmother was there for 25 days and I used to accompany her every single day to rehab. Through my observations with grandma in adult developmental disabilities, other like pediatric, and psychosocial therapy, I have seen that Occupational therapist can progress a person's standard of living and allow them to explore the greater level of freedom and their existence of being able to do things on their own. As a pre- Occupational therapy major I would like to offer my knowledge in the field where I could spend my time with people…
In the next month, I will be graduating and starting the decision-making process of what I want to do in college. I have thought about what jobs I have always wanted to do and two jobs have come to mind, a physical therapist and mental health counselor. Although they both have rewarding outcomes, physical therapist gets paid a lot more and I think that’s why I would choose to become a physical therapist over a mental health counselor.…

The ability to walk and move freely is something I think many people take for granted. Most people do not have to think about when to take a step or how to turn their head, they just do it; yet some people are never blessed with this ability, and still many others may lose this in a mere matter of seconds. However, this is why I am so happy to live in the world that we live in; a world where scientists, researchers, and doctors refuse to accept that a diagnosis is final. Restoring movement to a patient who has lost it can enable them to more fully enjoy all that life has to offer. The role of physical therapists is integral in assuring patients that there is a reason to hope. The process of rehabilitation is very slow and sometimes painful,…
My goal for this assignment was to run four miles in under thirty minutes. Before I had begun working towards this goal, I was running four miles in a little under thirty-three minutes. My average pace per mile was eight minutes and ten seconds. Eight minutes and ten seconds was considered “slow” to me since I used to run cross country and ran at an average pace of seven minutes and thirty-five seconds. Unfortunately, I had torn my labrum in my left hip the summer before freshmen year of college and had to get an intensive, endoscopic surgery. I completed about seven months of Physical therapy. After my I was cleared to partake in physical activity again, I quickly tried to run again and became disappointed and upset with myself. I ran at a…
I first had physical therapy at 27, after I slipped on an icy Montreal sidewalk and tore the ligaments in my left ankle. I had it again at 42 and 43, after surgery on my right and left knees, and most recently I’ve had it on both shoulders.…
Besides improving inpatient functioning, preoperative physical therapy has the potential to decrease post-acute care utilization and the total episode-of-care cost for patients who undergo total joint replacement surgery (57). Snow et al. found in their cohort study that the use of preoperative physical therapy was associated with a 29% decrease in the use of any post-acute care services. This association was sustained after adjusting for comorbidities, demographic characteristics, and procedural variables. Furthermore pre- and postoperative home treatment and education appears to be more (cost-)effective than inpatient treatment and rehabilitation (58).…
Many people might question the relationship between occupational therapy and physical therapy. Some think the professions are the same or that the terms are the same; there are a few different therapies for people who have been faced with a stroke, a disability, or any injury that has caused physical restrictions. The methods and techniques used in these therapies can overlap with each other, but both occupational therapy and physical therapy covers all aspects of the patient’s health including their physical, psychological, and mental state.…
It’s 2057. I open the doors of my most proud accomplishment. A pale white single-story building with gray trim. I walk in and reach up to turn on the air conditioning. The cold air blows my dark brown hair across my face, streaks of gray are starting to emerge.…
