Introduction: In this simulation, you will be looking at the production of carbon dioxide as a plant photosynthesizes. Oxygen is measured in the number of bubbles produced by the plant. Three factors that influence the rate of photosynthesis can be adjusted in the simulator to determine how each of the factors affects the rate of photosynthesis.

PostLab ANALYSIS
1. Based on the simulation experiments, what factors can affect the rate of photosynthesis in a plant?

2. Write the equation for photosynthesis (use your book or online resources if you don’t know it).

3. What are the bubbles you are measuring in this lab? Why do the bubbles tell you how fast photosynthesis is occurring?

4. Why is it important that you keep two variables constant (such as light level and color) while you’re testing how a third variable (CO Level) affects photosynthesis?
2

5. What settings can you put the simulator on to get the MAXIMUM rate of photosynthesis? 6.Why would it be hard to find the ideal CO level if the light intensity was set too low?

Photosynthesis the process where plants use sunlight (energy) to synthesize foods forming the products carbohydrates and water (H20 + CO2 + Light CH2O + O2). For photosynthesis to take place they need water, carbon dioxide and light and chloroplasts. Light is absorbed inside he thylakoid membrane of the chloroplasts, and the carbohydrate reaction or synthesis takes place in the stroma. In plants there are five kinds of chlorophylls with the same basic structure, chlorophylls occur as greenish pigments and capture light…

In the experiment, the effect of light intensity on the rate of photosynthesis will be tested. Photosynthesis is the process in which autotrophic plants create their own food (energy) from sunlight. Photosynthesis involves three ‘ingredients’ or reactants, carbon dioxide, water, and light energy (sunlight). Carbon dioxide and sunlight come in through a leaf’s stomata which are tiny holes, and water is absorbed through their roots. When all of these reactants are combined in a plant’s chloroplasts, glucose (a type of energy) and oxygen are produced.…
