Philosophy Of Nursing
The word philosophy can be defined in many ways depending on how other view it. To better understand my philosophy in nursing, I would like to address my belief in four concepts. By using the four concept it will define what philosophy in nursing means to me. The four concept consist of an individual, health, environment, nursing and how they connect with one another.
Environment is defined as “the conditions that surround someone or something: the conditions and influences that affect the growth, health, progress, etc., of someone or something” (Merriam-Webster, 2016). Society is what we call structure. We tend to adapt to what is around us known as environment and also influence our behaviors. Society do play an important role on how an individual think and act towards others and themselves. In today society, society would entrap us in thinking what a person should do to promote health and advertise modern medicine.
“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity” (WHO, 1948). Illness is being sick or ill; or how the individual fell towards sickness. Illness can affect a person health, physically and mentally. It is different from the term disease. Illness is perceived as an unhealthy condition or in poor health that hinders the …show more content…
Education in the nursing practice is necessary, to be able to apply that learning skills and using it to solve real life situation.
Theoretical base is adopted by nurses who conduct researches and experiment. Competent nursing practice is based on an understanding of the theoretical basis of nursing. For an example like hand washing, hand washing is shown to be more effective to cleaner hands compare to using Purell (hand sanitizer). It has shown to decrease the incident of spreading germ to others areas. Using evidence base practice is the foundation in nursing. Finding ways to improve how nursing practice was done long ago and advancing the practice. Nurses are pioneer in researches.
My philosophy will change over time. Nursing has advance so much and that my practice will change as well along with technology. With the discussion about my four concept, it has helped painted a picture of ways how a holistic care is in
