Philosophy Of Leadership Research Paper
Leadership Philosophy Paper
Throughout this semester I have learned a lot about the inner workings of leadership and teamwork. I have had experience with leadership and teamwork while performing makeup supervisor duties prior to my apprenticeship. Business 112 gave me a different perspective about working with people and engaging a team. While performing the team project I found myself using various ILead principles. These principles guided my actions and steered me in the right direction. Something else that helped me stay focused was setting goals and allowing others to know my personal expectations. Overall, I believe that Business 122 helped me understand the tools needed to be an effective leader.

Without these key elements, completing a team project would've been virtually impossible. Planning and decision making will allow a person to coordinate responsibly and effectively. Our team for our group projects planned time after work a few days to complete assignments and work to deliver a final product that we could be proud of. While working late we would each discuss ideas we liked and also ones that we weren't fond of. We would then select an option that we could agree on. An important part of the decision making process is compromise. Without compromise it would be hard for the group to implement ideas because everyone would want it their way or not at all. I showed value to these two principles by making sure we stayed on top of planning what we were doing and that decisions were being made in an appropriate and timely …show more content…

Week one of 35L Advanced Leaders Course (ALC) was quite beneficial at times and tryingly not at others. One benefit was the reminder of the importance of doctrine and referring to regulation when a question arises. It is easy to settle in to a routine or a particular office Standard Operating Procedure and forget there is a driving doctrine. The discussions pertaining to tribal knowledge versus doctrinal knowledge really drove this point home and were beneficial.…

I recently had the honor of interviewing someone in our community who has had more than thirty years of leadership experience in our community. The interview ended up taking much longer than I expected because I was so influenced by what he had to say, I did not want to miss anything. Mr. Kevin Henderson started his career as a cook back in the 60's for the Jolly Ox (Steak & Ale) restaurant. His leadership abilities were quickly realized, and he was promoted to Store manager. From there he moved on to the Shoney's Restaurant Corporation where he remained for twenty five years serving as a regional supervisor, and finally working his way up to the President of the Steak House Division of Shoney's. This consisted…

Taking ENES 317 has exposed me to lot of knowledge such as one leadership/Management skills, personality types, approaches to problems and decision making. In the past, I believed that leadership was a quality that could be learned and taught, but I also thought that leadership would best fit people with some personal trait such as charisma or personality of an extrovert people. With the knowledge gained from this leadership course, I came up with an individual Bill Gates who is successful in leading but an introvert, and he has successfully managed to influence others, who virtually revitalize our personal computers/phones and way of shopping. However, some of the things I knew about leadership before taking ENES317 was that a good leader should be open to new ideas, forgiving to his/her followers, and demonstrate humility. I still believe that without these qualities a leader can only become arrogant in their leadership that their behavior may isolate them from their followers. My focuses on this paper will be to analyze the self-assessments test taken in class and the leadership theories presented in class.…

Leadership is not only in a school setting but other professions requiring one or two people to direct others in a beneficial path. Pursuing a degree in administration forced me to reflect on the characteristics I see best fit when leading staff in the correct direction. Leaders are not born overnight, but take time to grow and perfect. Leaders not only are driven to benefit themselves, but also have a force behind them for the benefit of the entire school.…

Second, the necessity of team work was instilled within me. I’ve learned that as a whole we are much more than what an individual could hold. One may look at me as I toss a six foot flag into the air and say, “Yeah, that’s pretty cool.”, but if we cooperate with each other I could spin through the drum line into the toss and make the crowd catch their breath in anticipation. I was also taught the downfalls of not working together…

    Leadership Book Summary

    • 476 Words

The leadership book I chose was “ When Teams Work Best: 6,000 Team Members and Leaders Tell What it Takes to Succeed” by Frank Lafasto and Carl Larson. Frank Lafasto and Carl Larson observed 6,000 team members and leaders to teach individuals functional and dysfunctional ways of leadership. In the prologue, Lafasto and Larson discuss the Five Dynamics of Working Together. This includes team member, team relationships, team problem solving, team leadership, and organization environment. These are each described in the five chapters. Lafasto and Larson also talk about teamwork and collaboration in the prologue. This refers to people with different views and perspectives coming together, putting aside their narrow self -interests, and discussing issues openly and supportively in an attempt to solve a larger problem or achieve a broader goal. This concept is used throughout the book. From chapter one What Makes a Good Team Member, the most significant part of the chapter was learning what how an effective team member adds value to the team by addressing issues, building confidence and trust, demonstrating personal leadership, and bringing out the best thinking and attitude of everyone on the team. Another thing I found significant from this chapter was the three variations of collaboration. The three variations of collaboration are collectively oriented team members improve personal performance of teammates, good intentioned and desire to work collaboratively but difficulty fitting their behaviors to their intentions or desires, and egocentric members are competitive or have placed themselves beyond ethical and moral boundaries. In the second chapter Team Relationships, the most significant thing was the four underlying characteristics of good relationships are constructive, productive, characterized by mutual understanding, and self-corrective. These four characteristics are needed for leadership. In chapter three, Team Problem Solving, the model Five Steps to…
