Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity

Brotherhood is a powerful experience that can be seen not only in fraternities but also in other groups such as sport teams, church, corporations, and organizations. Society often dictates that men are incapable of establishing meaningful relationships or that college men are not focused enough to make a difference. This is far from the truth. An organization such as Phi Beta Sigma proves that men can form relationships that are meaningful, productive and invigorating. As a young man, I had dreams of attending college and joining a fraternity. By attending college, I would be able to increase my possibilities for employment by receiving a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a specific area of study. Here we have an organization that was established on January 9, 1914 by three scholars attending Howard University who decided to organize a fraternity dedicated to the service of humanity. These three men, Abraham Langston Taylor, Leonard Frances Morse, and Charles I. Brown created Phi Beta Sigma. Throughout the years of committing a culture for service and service for humanity, Phi Beta Sigma has been a beacon of hope, operating inclusive as opposed to exclusive, they have demonstrated a strong brotherhood in our communities, in our society, and in many lives they reach out to everyday. Its values support the culture of “service” which comes in all aspects of the word. Their ideal of scholarship represents the belief structure that has been embedded in every man and woman since birth. Every parent has expressed the importance of a proper education, treating people with respect, and that knowledge equals success to their child. Phi Beta Sigma represents a brotherhood of service that embodies the same philosophy of social action, education, and bigger and better business in which I am incline to be a part
