Phase 4 Individual Project
What have you learned about what psychology offers as a tool for understanding individuals?
Psychology helps people understand each other personalities. It lets their mindset get evaluated. To understand how a person thinks or handle situations are very important to understand. For example, when a girl is a lesbian it is for a reason. It could be because she saw her mother in an abusive relationship with a man do not want to go down the same road or because she is following in her mother footsteps as a lesbian. After being evaluated psychology would state the reason for her homosexuality. When a person does something taboo or inflict bodily harm to themselves people looks at them crazy. Something motivates them to perform them to perform those actions mentally. Psychology answers those questions. The MBTI is a prime example. It informs human beings about their personality, preferences, values, and blind spots. It also shows strengths, weaknesses and leadership capabilities. I never thought a test like that existed.
How do you think psychology can provide an essential set of skills to apply in the workplace?
For example, a large corporation that has multiple departments can give applicants the MBTI test to see if they are good employees for the certain department. The test will show their skills and weaknesses. The test will also dictate if the applicants will be good leaders. This info is vital for companies to know. They need to know in advance who to trust to make imperative decisions. Some of the decisions might be dealing with the company money. A bad decision with it could mean a disaster. Also, understanding a person would allow a business to teach them certain skills accordingly. After the individual is taught the way needed they can teach another person with their same understanding the skills. It would become a chain reaction to teach and learn vital skills.
