Pharmacy Observation Pharmacy Observation / Interview
I started my observation at 10:00 am and finished at 11 O'Clock AM on November 15/2015 in a Walgreen pharmacy located at 9150 Skokie Blvd., Skokie IL. First I met Pharmacist Majid Kamal and the working Technician, Betty. They both greeted me with professional manners. First Pharmacist Majid Kamal checked my license, and told me that I can ask questions and he will answer me. I asked her while I was respecting the right of the customers, what were these two scales on the counter top for. Betty said those are for checking the medication she said after that I check the medication on the scale then the pharmacist Majid Kamal will do the final check. Betty received a written a prescription for a new patient ,she asked the patient first name last name, date of birth, address, insurance information, medication allergy and put it on the computer. Betty communicated very friendly with the patient. Meanwhile, she was explaining to me why she did everything. While I was there one customer on the phone was asking about adverse reactions and dosage information. Betty politely asked the pharmacist if he could help. Betty explained she also cleans the work area. Some customers dropped off prescription and wanted to come later for pick –up, but other customers were waiting for the prescription to be ready. Betty said she works on those prescriptions first to be ready for the customer which the customer is waiting for. Next she will prepare the prescriptions which will be picked-up later. After she finished the prescription which will be picked-up later, she put them in a bin in alphabetical order, by, last name. Technician Betty mentioned that the schedule medication is kept safe and only pharmacist have the right to retrieve those drugs. Betty said the good part of her job is that she helps patients to get well, but the bad part of her job is that she stands for long hours and also deals with some difficult
