Peter Wright Case Study
For the Health Leader forge I chose Peter Wright, the president and CEO of Valley Regional Healthcare in Clermont New Hampshire. Peter has been the President and CEO for two years at Valley Regional. Prior to his current position he worked as the Chief Operating Officer for Littleton Regional Hospital. Wright took an unusual path into the health field and at the start didn’t know what he wanted to do. Wright now is the youngest CEO in the northern New England area.
After high school Wright wasn’t sure if college was for him so he was deciding to join the Marines. Where he was from there was a heavy influence to become a Marine so he started to speak with a recruitment officer. His Uncle didn’t think the Marines were the right choice for him so he took him up to Lyndon State in Vermont. After the visit Wright felt college was a better decision and enrolled at Lyndon State. While at Lyndon he studied Business Administration and didn’t plan on going into Health Care. Upon graduation Wright worked in the ski industry and received his first job in health administration at Copley Hospital where he was the director of marketing and Public Relations. While at Copley he worked marketing and public relations, using his

As the president and CEO he works with the community to help better the whole community and he also works with local colleges to train and teach students to fill roles within the hospital. Wright works with these students and uses their “soft skills” to teach them and enhance their roles with in the hospital. Wright spoke about how mentorship allows for risks to be taken but are opportunities to learn in a controlled setting. As the president and CEO of Valley Regional Healthcare Wright works with the community and this is a job I would want in the future. He has the respect of his collogues and peers which is something I want to earn throughout my

The memoir jumps right into the beginning of combat with “Major General James Mattis telling the men that the First Reconnaissance Battalion are cocky, obnoxious bastards” (9). Going into the details about the physical processes that they had to go through. From mountain climbing to scuba diving, he lets the reader know about the physical tests any soldier must pass. In months before the war on Iraq, they were discussing combat tactics on the invasion, ultimately coming up with some sort of American blitzkrieg (10-11). Wright certainly lets the reader know about every detail about General Mattis’ behavior. Also, how the Battalion was being treated to be more like a suicide squad. A person named Nathaniel Fick is a commander of the First Marine Reconnaissance. Fick says that he has the best platoon and cannot talk about them without smiling (19). Showing that he has pride and confidence in the men. Due to this enthusiasm, Wright decided to join Fick’s First Reconnaissance Battalion for the war (19). This was more appealing for Wright because he was just planning on staying closer to support companies avoiding most…

Going in to this interview, I was not certain what to expect at all. I had prepared a few questions and anticipated it lasting maybe ten to fifteen minutes at the most. However, my mental image of the interview did not remotely match up to what actually occurred. My interviewee was Dr. Hal B. Woodall, a medical doctor who owns Kenly Medical Associates, his private practice, but also comes in to the Wilson Medical Center to closely follow along with his patients, although he is not employed by, paid, or charged by the hospital for his services there. He has owned this practice and followed this routine for the past 38 years, ever since he completed his residency and internship at what is now known as Virginia Commonwealth University’s medical center. He attended the University of…

Wright’s idea of himself emerged from the intense discrimination and segregation in the South. He wrote in Black Boy: “At the age of twelve, before I had had one year of formal schooling, I had a conception of life that no experience would ever erase, a predilection for what was real that no argument could ever gainsay, a sense of the world that was mine and mine alone, a notion as to what life meant that no education could ever alter, a conviction that the meaning of living came only when one was struggling to wring a meaning out of meaningless…

Leadership “is a process where an individual influences a group of people to achieve a common purpose” (Northhouse, 2010). Being a leader is one of the most important skills one is either born with or acquires through mentorship or experience. A transformational leader who acts as a role model can influence patients, staffs, and make them accountable for their own practice, work achievement and staff development (McNaron, 2009). As an inspiring young future DNP leader, my main focus will be patient compliance, satisfaction, and healthcare accessibility. The transformational leadership skills I will need to develop and use are motivation, inspiration, empowerment, and trust. These qualities involves working closely with other healthcare providers…

In any business setting, there must me leaders as well as managers (Shanks, 2012). In my Nursing Home we have an excellent administrator who expresses every true thought and opinions he have about his residents and employees. Mr. Lake‘s leadership is a mixture of Inspirational, Diversity and Authentic. He has a big effect on our Nursing Home; anything that may goes wrong Mr. Lake is the first person to try to resolve the issue with a second thought. He also is a nature born trainer, if there is an employee who sounds unsure of a difficult scenario, he will question you until you get the answer right. This tactic develops employee’s work ethics and helps the employee to know what to do if this scenario should happened again. One of the bad traits he has as a leader is being silver tongued. Mr. Lake loves to express how he feels, especially if there is a silly situation that happens in our facility. Had Colvard been faced with this decision 6 months earlier, he says he would have gone the other way. What changed his thinking was a month he spent living in McAllen, Texas. It was part of a UPS management training experience called the Community Internship Program (CIP). During his month in McAllen, Colvard built housing for the poor, collected clothing for the Salvation Army, and worked in a drug rehab Center. Colvard gives the program credit for helping him empathize with employees facing crises back home. And he says that CIP has made him a better manager. “My goal was to make the numbers, and in some cases that meant not looking at the individual but looking at the bottom line. After that one month stay, I Immediately started reaching out to people in a different way.”…

Over the past few weeks I was able to learn an incredible amount during my time in the community clinical rotation. This rotation was not at all what I expected it would be. I was surprised by the diverse skill sets and leadership qualities required of the home health nurse. The clinical day that sticks out the most to me was the last day I spent with my nurse. Before noon my nurse had already seen six patients and attended a staff meeting. The amount of prioritization and organization she put in to each day was incredibly exceptional. Each patient required different skilled care, yet she was always capable of providing quality care no matter the environment. My nurse served as a mentor as she embodied a quality home health nurse. She taught…
