It was a small semi-professional performing group that consists of around 28 members, yet there was a wide range of instrumentation. There were 9 violins, 3 violas, 3 cellos, 1 bass, 1 flute, 2 oboe, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 French horns, 2 trumpets and 1 percussion. The performers were dressed very neatly. For men, they wore black tuxedo, white shirt with bow tie and black shoes. For women, they dressed in white top with black pants or dress and black shoes.…

When thinking of orchestral performances, one possibly thinks of stiff, formal environments that have a dress requirement of dresses and tuxedos. Visions of aloof, almost militant conductors with long tails on their suits also come to mind. However, after attending the Louisville Orchestra’s pops season event “The Music of Led Zeppelin”, it became very obvious that even the prestigious Louisville Orchestra and their devoted following could let their hair down and rock and roll for one evening.…

I went to see Overture to King Stephen, Op. 117 and Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 36, both composed by Ludwig van Beethoven and performed by Los Angeles Philharmonic at Disney Hall on December 31 2012. The music group consisted of about sixty-three bowed string instrumentalists, ten woodwind instrumentalists, nine brass instrumentalists and four percussion instruments and the conductor is Esa-Pekka Salonen.…

With sweat drenching their bodies and taking deep gulps for air, five young men sling their arms over each other’s shoulders and take their final bow. The crowd’s cheers erupt into shrieks and tears; for they have just witnessed the boy band One Direction perform live in concert. My screams too, can be heard throughout my house as I watch this video on YouTube vowing to myself that one day I will see One Direction in concert. I make this promise to myself, as my screams then morph into tears of joy and longing as the members of One Direction exit the stage.…

Concert Reflection On Sunday, April 17th, I attended a concert at Franklin & Marshall College. The concert featured members of the Lancaster symphony chorus and orchestra. Overall, the choirs combined with the orchestra, presented a full, beautiful sound. Within the triangle of the Cultural Revolution of the 1960’s (sex, drugs, music), it is easy to establish the fact that music was the very pinnacle of it all. The rock ’n’ roll music of the 1960’s was very appealing to all teenagers around the world and no other music group than The Beatles influenced the world as much as they. Unknown at the time, these four young men from Liverpool ultimately affected the course of pop culture and music in America, beginning with their 1964 visit. Each member was born in the midst of World War II; John Lennon and Ringo Starr in 1940, Paul McCartney in 1942, and George Harrison, the youngest of the group, in 1943.…

Recently, I was given the prestigious opportunity to sit in on one of Moon’s practices and observe the structure of the band from the inside. What I saw while sitting in the upper stands of the rehearsal stadium wasn’t shocking in the slightest; hard work, disciplined instructors, and even more adamant musical members of the band.…

It is not a secret that the Beatles is one of the most famous groups of all times. However it is extraordinary that John and Paul were the songwriters even though they did not know how to read or write music (Davies). This was not a obstacle for them and their creative work. The Beatles revolutionized the music industry with their distinct and unique style.…

Two concerts I attended this semester were Steve Aoki and Datsik and “The Brown Bag Series.” Although two completely different music styles, they were both fun to attend and interesting to think about when considering their musical elements. Steve Aoki is an American electro house musician, record producer and founder of Dim Mak Record. Datsik is a Dubstep DJ and music producer from British Columbia, Canada. “The Brown Bag Series” was an instrumental concert consisting of six people, one being Professor Golove, who played instruments such as the cello, the double bass, and the piano.…

Lennon met McCartney on July 6, 1957 at the annual St. Peter's Woolton Parish Church Garden Fete. Lennon was in a skiffle group called The Quarry Men who were performing at the event. Lennon was impressed by McCartney as he knew the words to several rock 'n' roll songs (Lennon would just make his own words up), and because he taught him some guitar chords (Lennon only knew the banjo chords taught to him by his mother Julia). McCartney subsequently joined the band, and brought Harrison along soon after, on February 6, 1958. In 1958, The Quarry Men recorded a demo of two songs; the first was an original Harrison/McCartney tune called "In Spite Of All The Danger"; the other was a cover of Buddy Holly's "That'll Be The Day". A number of songs that were later recorded for Beatles records, were originally written at this time including "I'll Follow The Sun" (which McCartney had written independently), "When I'm Sixty-Four" and "One After 909".…

On March 4, 2012, the DuPage Community Concert Band performed American Titled Songs at the College of DuPage. They performed a total of seven songs. I really enjoyed this concert. It featured many instruments like the trumpet, tuba and trombone. It was different from the concert I attended for my first concert report because it did not feature any stringed instruments. Something I found very different and unusual was the lack of audience involvement in the performance. It was odd for me to have to hold back my applause until the end of the performances. This concert featured many upbeat and patriotic songs. I enjoyed it because of this reason.…

In America, the most famous Vietnamese music show is Paris by night hosted by Thuy Nga Entertainment Center. Paris by night is the music show that performed by Vietnamese pop singers and comedians. I have been in USA for 4 years but the first time I had a chance to attend Paris by night show was last year. It was Paris by night 104 at Las Vegas. The concert was performed Theater for the Performing Arts (Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino), 3667 Las Vegas Boulevard South, in 2 days September 3 and September 4 at 7:30 pm. I attended the first day of the concert. There were 14 songs and one comedy performed in the first day. Most of songs were love songs such as Goi Ten em Moi Ngay, Ve Day Nghe em, Muoi Nam Yeu em…. There were also some songs about family like Vong Co Thieng Lieng Tinh Me, and love of country: Ve Lai Pho Xua. These songs are written by some famous Vietnamese composers such as Vo Hoai Phuc, Tram Tu Lien, Tran Quang Loc, Tien Minh, Hoai An. There were three songs that I love most in this concert: Vong Co Thieng Lieng Tinh Me by Huong Giang - Huong Thuy, Noi Tinh Yeu Bat Dau by Bang Kieu – Lam Anh, and Ve Day Nghe Em by Khanh Ly – Nguyen Ngoc Ngan.…
